Got a TD here for a post as to guns and Vets. I am a Vet. To be honest, in the Army they did not trust me with a rifle and gave me a 1911 .45.
My newest gun is a this Ruger Carbine in .45cal. It takes the 30 round Glock mags, so handy. So far it is excellent. Put Hornady Critical Duty in this, and it is better than you might think. https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/handgun/45-auto-p-220-gr-flexlock-critical-duty#!/

That’s an awesome setup. About a year ago I bought the FN 545 with 15 rd mags (.45 ACP) and I love it.

#### that sucks to lose that. I’ve built a couple ARs (5.56/.223 and .308) and I mostly just shoot wild pigs with them now.
I’d hate to lose my shotguns or pistols though.

I built an AR a couple of years ago and have yet to fire it. I think I am going to hire someone to "test" fire it, just like I did when I finished building my road bike.

I bought an AR in .308 and a thermal scope to take out hogs but only went a few nights- shot a raccoon and a n armadillo - never had a hog come in. Been lazy and haven’t even re- enrolled property in night hunt program.

Coons are tough on turkey nests and armadillo are just plain pests and dig holes where people don’t need holes.

No matter what you see in movies, hitting things with a pistol is hard. By my count in addition to a lifetime of plinking have fired the FBI pistol course about a 150 times.
Add a 16in barrel and hitting the target gets much easier.

Funny Tug, but I too carried a 1911 when I was in the Marines. However, I augmented it with a M79 grenade launcher with flechette rounds. I did not worry about hitting anything with the grenade launcher.

near eye level....Or is it more like a shotgun where you throw it up, keep both eyes open and cheek down just see the bird and shoot...I used to be a good shot, but now I don't think I could hit a beach ball if you threw it up....

Ha, I have fired that many, many times as my tiny unit would be shipped ammo we had to use up. You don't actually fire it at thing. You lob that grenade type round into an area like a small bomb.

I've wanted a 1911 .45 since bootcamp. Gotta be Colt though, and they are way out of my price range. I've got a safe full of weapons, and the prize is my M1 Garand. Also a weapon I fell in love with at bootcamp.

I bought my last 1911 through the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) …….. nice because you get them at about half price. Mine has a Remington Rand frame and a Colt slide.

my father did 2 tours and never fired his rifle once, but he fired his colt a couple of times, far more practical when you are lugging camera and sound equipment around.. He was mostly in Cambodia and Laos taking pictures for the Pantagon Brass, usually with a spook accompanying his unit.. He was in Saigan during the Tet Offensive when he won his silver star when he dragged a fellow officer to safety during heavy fire and used an audio cable as a tourniquet to stop his bleeding.. I am petty sure most people over 50 on this forum have seen his photos.

I never fired my pistol in Viet Nam ......cause if you fired it you had to clean it and chances are you were not going to hit anything anyway ... especially in a fire fight.

Need clips, I have a bunch from my dad's gun collection. Just give me a shout. I'm still whittling down his 'inventory'. Was 40+...down to 15-20 now...and ammo out the wazzoo! And more magazines of various calibers.

Could be...he had part armory...part museum! No idea the last time he had fired the M1...if ever. Sold it a few years ago...but many accessories remain. When I return home, I'll check the ammo again. There's thousands of rounds in multiple calibers...45...45-70 govt...5.56...and on and on.
I can still arm each window and door if necessary! LOL!

That’s really cool. I last bought a KSG 12 gauge. It’s so cool. It has two feed tubes and I loaded 1” slugs in one and 00 Buck in the other! That’s 7 round of each and they are Hornady critical defense as well. I put a broom stick on it with a strobe light and Magpul flip up sights.
I wanted to do something in .45 kinda cowboy gun style. Not a revolver and lever action but matching rifle and gun caliber. I may go with 5.7x28 because it’s a really great round. I could go with the P90 and keltec P50 as they interchange mags as well.
Some folks think a gun is evil. They aren’t. Blaming guns for violence is like blaming a fork for making you fat. It’s about how you use it. I have had CWP since it’s inception. I have never had to pull it in defense of myself or others. I did have to warn someone jacked up on meth that I would use deadly force to stop him from beating and robbing a store clerk once. I probably saved her life that day and didn’t even have to pull it out. That’s the kind of stat that doesn’t make it into the record.
