Greyshirt ?

Oct 4, 2013, 4:09 PM

Reading this board and 4-5 more, I seem tyo be confused about this.

I'm under the impression that a Greyshirt is full Scholarship that the student is just asked to wait to enroll in school until January, while I see some here, other CU boards and Coot boards acting like it's no better than a walk on.

In my opinion , I'm RIGHT(aren't we all) and it really goes to show what a GREAT program Dabo is building when 3 star athletes want to wait to get in.

Who's right ?

Grey shirt is a full scholarship for next season. The reason most teams do this is because of numbers. We have a small class this year and a large one next year so it is easier to take on grey shirts.

The player enrolls like normal and he pays his own way the first semester or year. Then, he is awarded a scholarship for the next year.

Is most often used by an SEC Team but now days some are starting to play by the same rules
If a team is not on any NCAA probation they can sign up-to 28 players with a max of 85 players on scholarship
When a team goes over the 28 that's when the Grey-shirt comes in
A player most of the time will start school in Jan on his on (yea right) then be added to the team as needed
Sort of going by "Where There's A Will, There's A Way"

Basically a grayshirt is when an athlete delays his enrollment at his future college so that his eligibility clock will not start ticking until he arrives on campus during the second semester of the year.
