On July 29, 2011, he joined the Houston Rockets as a player development coach,[11] serving for five seasons. Buckner reached the playoffs three times with the team as part of the coaching staff. He would later become an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies,[12] and in November 2020, became an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers.[13] On April 21, 2021, Buckner got his first NBA head coaching victory when he temporarily replaced head coach J. B. Bickerstaff as the Cavaliers won 121–105 against the Chicago Bulls.[14][15] On June 13, 2022, the Cavaliers promoted Buckner to associate head coach position.[16]

He meant more to our program than any player in our team's history.

His Frosh year, we were predicted to be the worst team ever in ACC history (Bruce Martin, billy Harder, Andy Kelly, Devin Gray for about 8 games, and Buck).

I think we finished 6th that year and Buck was the unquestioned leader.

We finished 7th out of 9 ACC teams that year.

We were 5-11 in the ACC, and our average margin of defeat in those 11 losses was 15 points.

Our 5 ACC wins were:

-Two against the ACC’s worst team in Duke (2-14 in league play)
-Two against the ACC’s second worst team in NC State (4-12 in league play)
-One against Georgia Tech (8-8 in ACC play)

Our 15-13 record sounds good for a team picked to be the worst in the ACC, until you consider the fact that we didn’t beat a single team all year that made the NCAA Tournament. We beat up on bad teams that were even worse than we were.

Cool story that year, but let’s not overrate our performance just because one sportswriter predicted that we would be the worst team in ACC history.

ACC sportswriters expectations for league finishes at year end, with nothing to show for it other than the afterthought 12th was actually 6th or something. No other stats ever add up. And yet you post this.

If I were you I wouldn't want Coach Buckner to take the reins here either. Can you imagine if Clemson was delivering the double boom and really shaking those moneymakers? I can.
