He may also have lost more than anyone else. I don’t know for sure, but he falls way short of greatness as a winning coach.

Greatest as in kick your a$$ is Danny Ford. He set a game plan and beat your brains out with it !
Greatest as in administrative is Dabo Swinney
Greatest as in establishing a program from the ground up is Frank Howard.
We have three coaches who have made Clemson what it is now. Looking at a combination of everything overall I have to choose Dabo !

While I agree that Hootie didn't have any coaching success at Clemson, he was the one followed the legend. His strengths were in administration, where he was the AD at both FSU and Alabama. While at Alabama he hired Gene Stallings who hired a young coach named William Christopher Swinney. Oh, and the iconic Paw was introduced under Ingram while at Clemson, and no doubt this is the most recognizable logo in all of college sports bar none.

Most difficult build for national championship? Noonan and Penley. Great coaches with limited resources who won and won and won.
Dabo is greatest coach unlimited resources but he probably could have done it with lot less.
