Please name the wide receiver positions (roles) terminology

I hear words like Slot, The 1, The 5, boundary, field, etc... I watch it, I see it, I get it. I just don't know what the team, or coaches, call it. So can you name the role positions and who are the players that were or will be at them. Thanks!

9 is the boundary receiver which is Mike Williams 5 and 2 change alignment but 2 is always off and is more like your slot guy but can be inside or outside of 5. 5 has been very flexible with what has been asked if it. Typically a good blocker, route runner, good hands but may not have the same physical tools as the 2 or 9. Often times the 2 is a running back type. The 3 is the tight end h back and he lines up everywhere but was played by Jordan leggett. In a spread look it might look like 9-----3--------lt lg c rg rt --------5------2 ----------------------q 4---------------- 4 is the running back

While we're talking positions/duties, why sometimes do our cornerbacks give 8-10 yard cushions to receivers, especially on 3rd and short situations?

Haven't seen 8-10 in short yardage but you might want to give cushion in that situation depending on 1. The team's tendencies. 2. What you are trying to accomplish schematically. If you drop backers or ends to flats in zone then you have your corners back. 3. If you have fast physical corners you may believe that they can come up and make a play even with cushion. I honestly can't complain about defense unless you are talking about giving up big plays which we drastically reduced as a whole next year. Exception being the Pitt game. We weren't ready, fly out coached, outplayed, etc. but... natty.
