Seems like a bargaining chip to me.

Either divide equally, or see ya!
ACC teams not deserving of the larger cuts are free to find another conference.

Clemson and FSU are the two of the most marketable schools in the country.

I don't know where, I don't think anyone truly knows at this point, but under no circumstances will Clemson get left behind.
If Clemson and FSU went up for sale today, we'd be sold before EOD.

That's the problem. You can't threaten to leave when you have nowhere to go.

and that short sighted decision ended-up nearly bankrupting their athletic department.

We wouldn't leave without a destination, but say there's an announcement

tomorrow that the ACC is dissolving.
I don't think Clemson and FSU would make it through the weekend without overtures from conferences and realignment.
If Clemson and FSU leave, then the ACC dissolves. If the ACC breaks apart, then there will be a grand realignment.
Just getting closer to the (4) supercomference model: 2 regions (think NFC and AFC), 4 conferences (2 in each region), and then divisions and playoffs structured like the NFL.. complete with wildcard teams.
No matter what, Clemson will not be left behind.

That's one way. Sending Wake, Duke and BC packing to the AAC or Big East would mean more money for all.

The Grant of Rights is holding FSU & Clemson and maybe UNC to the ACC for now. If this vote fails, it will give more support and justification to FSU and Clemson to leave the ACC, even knowing they will need to get many lawyers involved before leaving the ACC.

I wonder if Clemson, FSU and Notre Dame could become a mini package independent league and round out their schedules with home and homes with say about 5 other major teams and then sprinkle a couple Group of 5s plus in-state small schools? Now you take away the ACC automatic playoff spot and add another at large so probably two of the three would make the playoff every year plus negotiate their own network deal. Seems like a win-win for the three IMHO.

It's a good question. And that's where it's heading. I've been commenting on this issue for years, and the responses in support of Wake Forest & Duke equity have been numerous and surprising.

If Clemson leaves and refuses to pay the GOR penalty, what would actually happen? They can’t send Clemson to jail. It’s an institution. I’m not an attorney. It just seems better to just leave and then make the ACC relent and settle for a nominal penalty fee instead of the entire thing.

They want me to turn off my AD blocker to read their stuff? I guess I won’t read it…
I find it interesting that so many think Clemson won’t be left behind. There have been plenty of schools left behind over the years either due to poor decisions or intentional decisions. Granted, many of the examples were decades ago, but this is a huge turning point in college athletics. What makes everyone so sure Clemson will be fine? I’m not convinced Clemson wants to play semi-pro football.

Clemson and FSU belong to the ACC until 2035 because they sold their own ### into slavery.
