Kweshion for you armchair coaches. Imagine, if you will

that we are down by 2 points against FSU. it's the 4th quarter, it's 4th down and we have 5 seconds left on the clock with no timeouts. We are on the FSU 5 yard line.
Do you:
A) Trot out Gunn, who is now 1-4 on FG tries for the season and kick the FG for the win?
B) Go for the TD
P.S. - Dabo said today (9/18) he is "real close" to putting Swanson in as the FG/PAT kicker.....
TIA

we've already seen we have issues punching it in from short yardage with our RBs
Just playing percentages

Based upon his body of work, that is currently a 25% chance of success.......but ok fair enough.

Whatever the coaches choose, if it’s not successful, they will be idiots for not doing the other option and should all be fired.

He's not 1 for 4 from the 5 yard line. The FG's were in the 20's, 30's and 40's, yardage wise. Some of those, especially in the 20's should be gimmies, but that's a far cry from the 5 yard line.
And even though he missed a PAT, he's made plenty, so even if we were just going on that data he's not statisicaly likely to miss.

I would as well. I think we have some guys at RB that could punch it in.

I wish we would start playing those guys. We’ve had fumbles in that space, bad handoffs, and RBs who have not been so sure to punch it in. Who would you give it to?

Go for the TD. Give it to Mafah.
Ain’t no way I’m trusting the kicking game.

but considering he's only missed one PAT so far this year, and this would effectively be a PAT, I'd roll him out there.

Yes, good point. But then how do you explain the two misses at Dook??

Both kicks were low. Far too low, IMO and his PAT's are too low even now. Blocking was an issue on both misses for sure.

If we’re on the 5 yard line with only time for one play you kick it. It’s basically an extra point and Gunn’s percentage there is much higher than 25%.
By the way if you don’t kick it you already told Gunn he’s out and you’re auditioning students on campus next week for his job.

Agree. Based on percentages a 2 point conversion is around 45%. That field goal is similar to an extra point which is around 95%.
I would also say that if gunn is not even 90% on pats then we should go for 2 every time based on percentages

Good question
I certainly hope that the coaches work on this situation every day because it very well could become a reality.
None of us has the confidence in the kicking team as we once had.
IT is called FOOTball for a reason!!!!

That wasn't one of the options because as of today, Gunn is our kicker. Now, if Dabo makes the change, then that becomes option C).

100% A.
Dabo loves to give a guy a shot at redemption and its not an unfair ask of the young kicker.

1-4 on FG's doesn't mean he's 1 for 4 at that distance. He missed a PAT, so obviously it's not beyond question that he could miss such a kick, but the 1-4 plus a missed PAT shoved together doesn't mean he's all that likely to miss that kick.
Easy call. kick it.

We watched FSU stuff LSU 2 times on 4th and 1. I’m kicking the field goal. If we are in a 3 point game assuming the score isn’t 3-0 he has kicked PAT’s. Possibly already kicked a field goal in the game. Basing that outcome would determine who is kicking the game winner. If Gunn missed a field goal earlier Swanson is going out there.

If we don't have anybody than can kick a 5 yard field goal, then we should recruit somebody out of the stands.

Can’t trust the kicker right now. He is going to end up hurting someone in the band if he keeps whiffing them left
