I think it’s pretty simple really:

Alabama has been the best team for most of the season, and although they aren’t as invincible as the media makes them out to be, they are a great team and deserve the top spot. Clemson has been great all year and deserve #2. Notre Dame is also undefeated, against a good schedule, but does not have the option for a conference championship game so they are #3. Oklahoma has one loss, a narrow one to Texas, but they avenged that loss yesterday by beating Texas for the conference championship.
Ohio State also has one loss, but it was a bad loss to Purdue in a blowout. Their conference championship doesn’t make up for that enough to put them in the top 4.
Georgia is a good team, but they have two losses (one by 20 points) and no conference championship.
If the committee comes up with any other top 4, something is wrong.
