Any conference and the first will determine if they can do the second.
1. They will have to see that there is a benefit as in not making the final four or whatever if may be at that time and 2. Put aside their arrogance to make a rational decision

If someone caves to ultimatums you control them. I wouldn't try that on anyone I wanted a relationship with.
We'll get plenty of money and exposure for our limited relationship with ND.

Five (or more) ACC teams each year get the out-of-conference game that everybody else wants. Notre Dame fans requested twice the BCS tickets as Alabama fans. It's a sellout game with a steeper ticket price for the 2 or 3 teams that get to host them each year under that agreement.
BTW, somebody posted on here that Alabama was much wealthier than SC, so I googled. Alabama is a little better at production per capita (#46 for AL and #48 for SC; believe it or not, Mississippi is #36), but in terms of income, SC is #40 and AL is #44 (and Mississippi of course is #50).

this past year proved that ND still can be independent in football and get to the national title game. For a while not being in a conference looked like it was hurting ND. But Brian Kelly has done a good job and if he continues to a good job ND won't be joining full time.
And the ACC isn't going to put that kind of pressure on them.
