There building a freaking transfer all star team down there. They might even land that transfer cb from Virginia so they'd have the #1 and # 2 TEs #1 O Lineman #1 DT #1 CB That game worries me next yr gonna be tough but it is at home.

They aren’t getting transfers because of money.

They are getting them because they see value in the portal and are willing to use it.
They also have a rich football tradition, a coach players want to play for, and an opportunity for transfers to come in and play.

If you think most of these transfers are getting no money from FSU and are going there because they want to be in Tallahassee and play for Mike Norvell then you are not as sharp as I thought you were. No wonder you think Brad is getting ready to win the ACC

he was continually chased down from behind by high school talent.
He was able to break a few tackles, but as a smaller back without breakaway speed, I don't see how he will improve our offense.
I hate to disparage the kid, and I hope I am wrong. But if we are honest with ourselves, RB recruiting has been a disappointment lately.
I looked at Trevor Etienne's film for comparison purposes, and it's night and day.

The only team they really got beat down by this year was us, until we just let off the gas in the 4th quarter. So they should be a very formidable opponent and ranked high in the polls next year if they stay healthy!

Unfortunately, Mike Norvelle is not Jimbo. FSU will be a force. Their OL coach might be the best in the country. Mario and the U on the other hand, is the TAM of the ACC until proven otherwise.

Norvell is using the portal...
Dec 27, 2022, 9:00 AM
|
|
...because he has to. The talent level was so bad when he took over that he recognized it would take years to even become competitive in the ACC if he didn't get transfers to come in.
He has stated that in the coming years he expects to use it less and less. Thus far he has been remarkably successful. Last year both DE ends came through the portal. Both are in the NFL now. This year it looks like at least 4 guys he picked up will be in the NFL next year, unless they decide to stay at FSU for another year. It looks like he has landed another great group of guys in the portal who will be starters in the Fall.
But, the portal is a high risk / high reward deal. Nobody can expect to hit a home run every year.
FSU also has a collective that has stated their objective is to retain players currently on the roster. Instead of paying HS seniors, they are looking to pay guys currently on the roster to get them to stay at FSU (rather than enter the portal or declare for the NFL draft). That appears to be working very well. (Jordan Travis and Trey Benson are the two best examples.)
I don't know, but I suspect Clemson is using NIL the same way. Instead of paying HS kids, pay kids who have already proven themselves and get them to stay at Clemson instead of heading to the NFL.

So you admit FSU is using nil to bring in from the portal these players that are going into the NFL the following year. I don’t think Clemson has paid nil to any high school recruit as of yet. It may come in the future. Clemson tried to get the cornerback out of VA but money will take him somewhere else probably FSU. He is waiting around for the highest bidder. Buy yourself a trophy but don’t put it in the trophy case where Bobby Bowden trophies are. He got them the honest way.

Let me try and clarify.
Dec 27, 2022, 10:38 AM
|

FSU is using NIL. Clemson is using NIL. Dabo has said as much. They have set up a whole department to help kids who want to use NIL.
Shipley is using NIL to help other people. Gibbons, FSU, is doing the same thing. He has set up an organization to help special needs children. He received the Danny Wuerffel Award this year. (Great story. Worth the time to look it up.)
I never said FSU was using the NIL to recruit HS players. I said they were using it to retain players already on their roster. I suspect Clemson is as well. (For those juniors who decide to come back, I suspect they have some sort of NIL deal that factored into their decision.)
FSU, apparently, is not using NIL the same way aTm or Miami are using it. FSU is not outbidding anybody in order to sign HS kids. (As pointed out elsewhere in this thread, FSU is ranked #16 in recruiting this year.)
It appears to me that FSU and Clemson are using NIL in similar fashion. Where they differ is in the use of the portal. If FSU wants to be competitive they have to used the portal. Clemson can be competitive without it.

Great comment amongst a lot of stupid ones. The "other teams are paying to get players" comments make my brain bleed. "Clemson isn't doing it, so we should criticize how other teams are doing it."
The interesting thing (to me) is that while Mike Norvell may have started to turn a corner with the team this season, his recruiting still isn't great. They are #16 in the current class, which is his first top twenty class. So he kind of needs the #1 (right now) portal class if the team is going to get to elite status.
I'm still not a complete believer in him as a coach, but he has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt, with the way the program has finally started to improve.

If you think these transfers not getting nil money then think again. FSU buying a nil transfer team. They are going to be hard to beat next year even in Death Valley. They got one of best offensive schemes of anybody and now they got the pieces thru the portal to make it work

The only true reason is halfassU has a QB...makes all the difference in the world...wedid not have a functional one and still beat them handily...Norvell is smart but it will take time to assemble all the pieces...a great defense is often harder than an offense...that's one thing that has sustained Clemson...many moons ago Dietzel at LSU had a bunch of players that played both ways...strange name with a Mohawk haircut...like he had a whole team of Wilkins...they were vicious!

If an FSU fan, why? Their coach is using the tools available and necessary to build and improve their team. Just because “we’re not built that way” doesn’t mean they shouldn’t. If we don’t need it fine, but other teams apparently do to improve.
