because he has a helmet strapped on so tight it'll never come off and some guy is going to rip at his head and the player's neck is going to be severely injured or worse.

Game film should show automatic ejection for Auburn players

This is easily shown & proven and should be implemented immediately (and retroactive to Auburn players).

If it isn't a foul it should be to attempt to rip a players helmet off. Several times on replay you could definitely see the Auburn players grabbing Boyd's helmet and trying to pull it off. On one occasion, the Auburn player actually had Boyd in a headlock hold and had one hand under the edge of his helmet. This is ridiculous.

As much as I hate to slow down a game, I think every helmet situation should be reviewed. If the video evidence shows someone purposelly ripping off a helmet, it's a penalty. It may keep people from trying to rip off a helmet.
Yes, I know it's hard to tell at the bottom of a pile, but you can't win every battle.

If they are convinced this rule needs to be in place

Then I'd suggest a simple tweak.
Lets just flip the assumption. Let the default position be that something legitimate happened to make the helmet come off, and unless a ref sees a helmet come off without contact (legitimate pulling contact) nothing happens. I saw a few helmets come off of tacklers during tackles where it was momentum of the hit and not any direct contact that forced it off. That would seem to be a fine time (if a ref sees it) to force the player to sit a play.
But it's laughable to me that a player can enter the pile with his helmet, be unseen for a few seconds, come out without his helmet and be asked to sit.

I believe this new rule about leaving the field for a down is making defenders try harder to rip the helmet off of good players.
