i know its not a popular opinion but it is the truth
can't help but think if Dabo didn't have that new contract (and wasn't as popular as he is with the fan base) he wouldn't be going this route

I agree there is a lot of uncertainty but I'm not ready to say it is destined to fail.

I'm not saying its "destined to fail" in its totality
I'm saying we are going to lose games that we shouldn't during this "learning process"

I'm sure Bama feels they should've beaten Auburn last year - UGA too. UGA should've beaten GT this year. TCU should've beaten Baylor and felt apart.

If Dabo didn't feel they were ready, they wouldn't have the job. This is the perfect time for them to learn. Rob Spence could win with DW and our talent at RB and WR that we will have next season. I think Elliott is going to be a GREAT playcaller and I think Jeff has nothing but success in his background.

Honestly I don't know if we're going to experience a big drop off and think it's possible our play calling improves. One of my biggest criticisms of Chad was his play calling.
I just don't understand why anyone would say Elliot is going to be a great playcaller at this point. It's a complete unknown.

Elliott alluded to him and Scott calling some of the plays prior to Morris' departure in their interview. So, he has called plays before in a limited capacity.

What is so hard about calling plays when your O is loaded? Watch some film of the other D and call plays taking advantage of your strength and their weakness. Really easy our last game as the coot D was weak in every area.

The "buddy system"...
Dec 13, 2014, 12:18 PM
|
|
In TigerTown it's referred to as family...
Honest question:
When our offense was abysmal and we hired Chad Morris...did you call him "just a high school coach?"
Dabo had made excellent hires and has validated his ability to pick coaches and make tough decisions if/when those don't work out.
Why don't you let him do his job and quit wishing for more losses so that we have "more pressure." SMH

Losing a 5th commit will do that to ya.
It blows my mind people that think Dabo isn't going to make a decision to benefit himself. What benefits Dabo is continuing to be the head football coach by winning games and continue to get raises by winning games. What possible good would it do Dabo to hire people that he doesn't think will be successful?
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're trolling.

4 years ago he hired a guy 1 year removed from HS football.
Dec 13, 2014, 12:26 PM

3 years ago he hired a guy who was being forced to share duties with the head coaches brother (a move that most everyone in college football saw as a bit of a demotion).
In both cases there was a lot of folks gnashing their teeth and wailing about these being poor decisions that would cost the program.
Fast forward to today and we have had an amazing run with our offense being seen as one of the more prolific units in the country and we have the best defense in the country. And our recruiting has steadily improved over that time (not that that was an issue to begin with).
So, maybe give the coach the benefit of the doubt.

Will this incoming O-line class stay healthy?

Play calling is not as much the art that it once was.
Dec 13, 2014, 7:30 PM
|
|
Preparation leads you to have certain calls predetermined given down, distance and circumstances. One example of failed playcalling is FSU game 2nd and goal from the two inch line we have our Qb in shot gun formation and snap is over his head. Now we heard all of the excuses of why it happened. Fast forward to the scar game twice in goal line situation with a Qb with a bum knee we line up under center and score two tds. Now chad Morris was a godsend to Clemson but let's not pretend he was inerrant. Also with the Louisville game right before half we pick up a huge 1st down inside the 5 with less than 30 seconds to go and no timeouts. Instead of clocking the ball we run another play and waste valuable seconds leading to the blown scoring opportunity on the next play.

other coordinators have on the sidelines. Not only do they have just the plays, but plays for certain down and distance situations depending on what the defense has been doing. Do you think none of those sheets are still around and that Scott and Elliott don't have them? Yes, you certainly have to know which of those plays to pick out, but it is not like the OC has to think about a hundred plays every time we snap the ball. I think we will do fine - really surprised if we don't!
What will surprise me is if Elliot doesn't get raked over the coals the first time one of his plays doesn't work - here on Tnet!

Nothing you said is truth. It's all baseless opinion. You're a pessimistic person with a bad attitude and sour look on all things. Look at your posts. I think where most of us differ about this co-oc thing is what I believe - that Dabo is only as good as his coordinators. He went out and hired some really, really good ones and Dabo looked great because our program rose to a new level. Now we have lost one of those coordinators. Replacing a great one with 2 unproven rookies is ludicrous IMO. I know it's the CLEMSON way. The problem is going to be that we will suddenly see just how good (or bad) Dabo really is as HC. If you need a comparison, think about Saban in this situation. No problem - right? I'm not so sure that we're in for some major bumps in the road as Dabo tries to right the ship. It won't be pretty IMO. I hope I'm wrong, but this one is almost a no-brainer.
