Freshman wideouts

What do you think of the freshman wideouts so far? Tbh I haven’t seen as much as I’d like to. Ngata dropped several passes last week. He looks pretty slow on kick return as well. Ladson hasn’t really shown much this year

Ngata isn't slow...

He chews up ground with each stride. He's a crease or step away from taking one the distance. Ladson had one of the best catches of the year for a TD. A team with a dozen receivers still only has one football to share.

They both are going to be great! Just compared to the best WR’s in College Football it’s hard to look as good.
They both are getting better at blocking and route running. They both will help us in the playoffs.
Ngata has looked great at times. Some returns are ok. If he makes the 1st one miss he has blazing speed. He’s gun shy and our blocking has been terrible for him.

A few decent plays this year but overall to this point, not as impressive as when the other receivers were freshmen. You could see it from the beginning watching Tee and Amari and then Ross steadily ramped it up from one game to the next last year.
Like you, smokepurple, I've saw a lot of drops earlier from the newbies but slowly getting better.

Ladson was the guy I was most excited to see play from the press I read on him. In my opinion he has been as advertised. Ngata the way Dabo has spoken of him he too will be a stud. As someone else mentioned, the dudes in front of them are top shelf, and only one can catch at a time. Once upon a time they would have been our go-to guys and we would have been darn proud to have them in the pre-Nuk days.

I would really like Arian Smith this class. We are missing a burner in the receiver room imo

There was an interview in the spring where Tony Elliot said Ladson was as fast as any receiver we have had. Compared him to Sammy Watkins with his acceleration. Once he gets comfortable with college game speed I think her will be unreal.

Ngata and Ladson haven't had the production many expected but I think both guys will be studs. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them blows up before it's all done this year.
Ditto on Arian Smith. Our receiving corp really needs a guy like him.

I don’t know. I’m too busy watching Will Swinney catch passes in garbage time instead.

Ladson isn’t a wideout. He’s a slot receiver and a good route runner. Wideouts are what the name implies “wide out” so either an X or a Z. Ladson is a Y

Lol. Ladson does not play the slot, or the 5. He is a true 9 man, boundary receiver. He could also play the 2.

Also you clearly never played or have any real offensive knowledge of the game if you are referring to receivers by numbers. They are letters. I had a brain fart by saying he was a Y because he’s not but he’s lined up in the slot more often than not if I’m not mistaken but I believe his route running suits the slot more than just running go routes that is done by the X and Z.

If you follow Clemson football closely you'd know that the verbiage Clemson's offense uses is 9-boundary, 5-slot, and 2-field. If you'd rather go with X Y Z that's your prerogative, but talking about Clemson WRs by numbers is consistent with how the coaching staff does.
Also the implication that all the boundary and field WRs do are run go routes is....peculiar to say the least.

Mike Williams didn't record any stats in the 2013 Orange Bowl. The big TD catches were all Sammy and Martavis in that game.

I have read most of this thread! You people are CRAZY!! Spoiled or something. Those 2 guys Ladson and NGata or however you spell their names, they are beast! They also have been great this year. Someone look up the stats! When you only play on average 20 or less snaps a game you can only do so much. My word 13 and 14 people a game hey catches!! This is the most talented offense ever!!! Ever I tell you! Maybe anywhere in all of history.

They are freshmen playing behind a lot of talent. I think they will grow each year and be outstanding. Remember Mike Williams? What a lamecock carrying stud he became!

Is this a joke? If you cant see Ngata's burst on kickoffs you're blind. Also there's been several plays where Larson has beat this man only to be overthrown.

To me....IMHO...its both on the kickoff return. He does seem tentative at first. Either patiently setting up a block or waiting to see which crease opens or just hesitant to barrel up in there. But boy when he does see a crease or catches someone losing contain, he burns them on the edge. So...again, to me...whether the cup is half-full or half-empty, the cup contains only 50% of its volume. Same with Ngata - he is both slow off the start but fast when it opens.
Just don't fumble it...that's all I'm saying the whole time on kick and punt returns.
