Five weeks ago I had a mild heart attack. I've been doing ok for the most part, but weak. I can't handle any exertion and only short walking distances.
I have triple or quadruple bypass surgery tomorrow; they'll know when they get in. A little more nervous about it than I have been about a Clemson-Bama national championship game.
If you see no further posts from me, I didn't make it. I'll be with my Lord.
If I do make it, please pray for a quicker-than-normal recovery. I'm going to come right out of this surgery into a change of career and location. And further, I have three possible opportunities and am not sure which one is THE one.

I also pray that where ever you are having the surgery done is better on pain management post surgery than where I had my triple bypass done years ago. You will hurt, no way around it. It is not possible to breathe without your chest moving, but I tried REALLY hard. I know you will, too. It only hurts when you breathe!

Pain management was pretty good, except that one of the drain tubes was RIGHT ON a major nerve and no amount of morphine or whatever dulled that. And they always wanted me to take deep breaths. I'LL TAKE SOME DEEP BREATHS WHEN YOU GET THIS DRAIN TUBE OUT!

And know my 75 yr old Dad had the Quad and lived a robust lifestyle afterwards (married a 53 yr old beauty afterwards) but sadly with no exercise, still drinking a bit & eating somewhat badly (BBQ, hush puppies, etc)..Until a stroke at 86.9 & died at 87.9~
Saying, you will be fine and even better if you eat correct foods and exercise regularly!

My father just had valve replacement. It's not the same, obviously, but these things are fairly standard, at this point. It's becoming routine. Prayers for you, but you don't need them. You'll be fine and we'll be seeing(talking) to you very soon.....

You’ll be fine. I sit in on bypass surgeries every week. You will feel like a brand new person after cardio rehab.

They actually didn't give me pain medicine other than working tylenol and aspirin into my daily meds.
That first night I had a lot of oxycodone and fentanyl. They only gave me those again if they were doing something like pulling a tube or catheter out.

I have direct family who have gone through the same procedure and even a heart transplant. You'll be sore and have to dig in deep at times for the recovery, but having a second-lease on life is truly a blessing and a great motivation to keep in mind!

Done. It's amazing what they can do now. Give it time to get your strength back, I had a mild stroke 7 years ago and it took about 6 months before even walking through the grocery store didn't tire me out. Take every moment of the physical therapy if the doctors advise. You will not think its working for a while and then it adds up and one day things will click.

Just had a heart attack on 2 March '25, 2 blockages and now have 2 stents. Was very weak before the attach and now have all my energy back. Do all that the physical therapists tell you to do and you will be fine!
Continue to expect God to work in your life, expect the doctors to have the expertise to get the job done - correctly.
May your new job and location be an upward movement with considerably less stress!!
