Seems that most presidents would certainly not be in favor of this new deal.

I suspect ESPN told them they would not extend the network deal unless it was approved. You can bet there is a reason.

I had the same reaction when the idea was floated a month or so ago. Perhaps they had to choose between the new deal or face the dissolution of the conference and most of them would have trouble finding a new home.

For some "near-term stability" according to the article yesterday...

"Top earners are expected to net an additional $15 million or more, according to sources, while some schools will see a net reduction in annual payout of up to about $7 million annually, an acceptable loss, according to several administrators at schools likely to be impacted, in exchange for some near-term stability."

I suspect there was enough support for a 'disband altogether' which would have left the rest out in the cold if the financials weren't fixed. I see this as a win for all parties today.

I see it it as a huge win. I figured this whole deal could linger for a decade to be honest.

Obviously the schools with lower ratings will earn less than the Tigers, Noles, and Tar Heels of the conference. But with the 100+ million exit fee, the bottom feeders will come out ahead when the larger brands exit. That is why they voted for this, it is a forgone conclusion that defections are iminent.

100 Million / 15 teams is less than 5 million a team. It’s not that big of a deal, really.

Either that or they risked ending up like Washington St and Oregon St in the old P12.
