If you removed "the big guy" it would read as "I headed to (Dabo's)son's basketball game." Actually should've used "me" there, but it's a very easy mistake to make.

I think it would actually be me. "Me, headed to the basketball game" as if it mattered. If he said "am headed" (or "are headed" in the plural sense) or was using it as a past tense verb, then it would be I. Anyways I'm glad this fellow is getting so acquainted with the coaching staff.
