Followed Clemson 59 yrs can't remember this many injuries

Apr 8, 2022, 9:45 AM

Last two years, seems like we've been Hawk Eye's MASH unit. Any theories?

Plenty of morons believe the S&C program is causing the injuries. Weird thing is we have the same staff we have for the last 10 ish years so the theory holds zero credence.

The smart money is on the fact that current day players are much more developed from a musclear standpoint to maximize their potential. This type of developments puts stress on their bodies so they are at higher risk for injuries. Combine this with a random cycling in of injuries then you have your answer.

As an aside I remember when CTB was the HC and everyone blamed Batson for the fact that our OL could not run block to save their lives. There were massive dissertations on this site and others deep diving into how Batson sucked and we would never win anything with him as our S&C Director. This is the same bunch of bumpkins who thought Dabo was nothing more than a value hire, that Jeff Scott could not coach WRs because he was a walk on and that Brownell is the only thing holding our basketball program from NCAA glory.

Last season was an anomaly. Most of the 20 guys

being held out of spring are carryovers from last season and/or being held out of the spring game for precautionary measures.

Last season was crazy with injuries, but let's not really call it the "last two years".

Post Covid changes to training regiments? Just using different muscle groups differently for two years and then using them differently again?

I think the fact that Joey Batson had his heart surgery last summer had a lot to do with it. At that point it was up to his assistants to continue the training. I think his leadership was missing from those workouts.

um, yeah, that' an easy one...

we do nothing but work the muscles out more and more and find many more ways and machines to do it. One problem: how do you strengthen the ACL's, the tendons (like Achilles), and so forth, in correlation. So the stops and starts are even more violent due to muscle strength and I'm sure flexibility. But yet, the tendons are the same as they always were, and are now the "weakest link" in the chain. When I played - and I played very hard and aggressively, there wasn't much weight lifting or emphasis on it, esp to the degree of "year-round". I don't remember myself or any teammates having tendon tears, although we had all the other turns, wrenches, and bruises, and broken bones too.

In another life, we always conducted a root cause analysis of accidents and failures, whether equipment or procedure. I just wonder has a root cause been performed on these injuries? Have the injuries all occurred on the same field? What about the type footwear that each athlete was wearing at the time of the injury. just a thought?

"Back then" the Root analysis playing at Maryland sorry-cooted horrifically bad turn field. That placew just seemed to cause injuries.

There has been a lot of analysis of turf type and injuries but nothing significant came out of it as they had the same rates.

But I say, Maryland's place might have been designed to injure folks...
