I was watching that game on TV with my dad, and neither one of us could believe what happened. But everything was ok because we won the game and Woody was fired afterwards.

I was at my girlfriend’s house watching the game. After that right hook by Woody on Charlie Bauman, my GF’s father a coot fan started arguing with me. He was claiming no way did Woody Hayes hit Bauman.
After 30 mins of saying good night to my GF, I went home. As I walked my house my GF’s father called to apologize and admit Hayes did hit Bauman.
Only a coot fan or an OSU would argue that call 😂😂😂

My 7-months pregnant wife and I also were at the game. We sat about 1/2 way up the stands at about the 50 yd line. We didn't learn what actually happened until that night when it was shown on TV. But what we did see was that was never shown on TV was that Syd collapsed on the field while running back to the Clemson bench. If you look carefully at the video you will notice that WH jabbed Syd in the throat with his thumb to get under the facemask and chin guard, which i think was the cause of the collapse. That was an incredibly vicious and dangerous act and should have resulted in criminal action.

If it hadn't been Danny's first game he would've whooped Woody's ### at midfield

I never liked osu or woody and am not defending him. I just thought it was funny he got fired as an old man hitting a guy with pads on in a game where hitting is required.

I was at the game with my parents. We didn’t know what happened. When we got up the next morning we heard that Woody had been fired. Our first impression was that why would losing to Clemson cause him to be fired. It was the next day when we stopped in Columbia for gas and got a newspaper that we found out that he hit a Clemson player..

I was reading ABC announcers Keith Jackson and Ara Parseghian never spoke on air after it happened about Hayes throwing the punch,
It was announced by the Ohio State AD while the plane was in the air back to Columbus that Hayes had been fired.

I was in the stands about 40 yd line up from the Clemson bench. Now I was only 10 yrs old at the time, but it was a long ways across that field to other bench area. You could see the commotion start, you just couldn't tell live during game what was actually happening. But what happened spread in less then a minute.. It was a Awesome night, I won the $200 pool in 1978 , I guessed 17-14 lol
Go Tigers!! 🐅 💪
