Field Goal Block Film

Both were the fault of the left TE. On the first, the 3 man bulldozed the left TE and on the second the 2 man shot the gap between the left TE and left Wingman.
In the first: Number 75 playing left TE got knocked down like a fat kid at a candy store (0:15) and laid on the ground on his back crying while the guy blocked the kick. At least as he was getting up he tackled one of his team mates so he didn't do nothing. It was a 49 yard kick, but probably a little low.
Adjustments were made on the second one and they put Blake Miller at left TE for the second field goal that was blocked. It was Blake Miller's fault. He pulled his left leg back like he was pass blocking which opened a huge hole for the guy to run free between him and the left wingman. On top of that, the left wingman (Parker) reached out to his left to even make the hole bigger. Notice Miller and the Parker's feet never interlocked after the snap.(0:32 on the video)
The coaches tried to put Miller in there to sure up the protection, but failed to coach him up on the proper steps for the position he was playing. The blockers are supposed to have their legs interlocked once the ball is snapped.
No Excuse..... Difference in the game right there in those two plays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q5frHaGqC4

Definitely not #1. He's a punter. Doubt he works with linemen.

They should play this to them this week in meetings
"You punch the 3, but your eyes are on 2"..... That is the entire responsibility of the TE in PAT/XP. The TE has the 3 with the tackle, but their responsibility is the 2. In the first block, the left TE got ran over by the 3, and in the second, they put Blake Miller in there (crazy we don't have a back-up OL that can not get ran over on FG/XP), and he took bad steps (along with Parker at left wingman) and allowed the 2 man in untouched.
For context... the A gap is between center and guard, the B gap is between guard and tackle, and the C gap is between tackle and TE.
When he talks about the 3, 2, 1 guy, he is counting the opposing players on FG block from the outside in. The number 1 man is the widest guy on the opposing team field goal block team, etc...
So, the left wingman Parker punches the 2, but is responsible for the 1 (the widest rusher). The left TE punches the 3, but is responsible for the 2 (the second widest guy on the FG block team)

Blake Miller's footwork and reaction to a blitz has been suspect since he arrived at Clemson. He maintained a turnstile at RT for a long time..... just directing traffic.

I’m guessing that we spend less than half an hour per week on special teams, and that’s being generous.

But FIVE blocks means nothing has gotten fixed. It’s a head scratcher. I posted today that ST play is the putting us in holes that we’re not good enough to get out of. Frustrating.

Swanson's punting this year compared to last year is as big of a drop-off we had going from TL to DJU, except its the same guy which is even more perplexing.
I know I have said it many times, but he was one of our most valuable players last year by consistently and often flipping the field and pinning teams inside their 20. I think we lose one or two more last year without him. This year though, he is punting horribly.

I unashamedly admit that I know little about special team formations, but was wondering what was going on, did Louisville ware something on film, etc. Thanks for sharing and for your analysis.

They said in the FSU broadcast that they had found a weakness on special teams. I guess all teams are exploiting it now.

At 4:27 on this video, the block came from the 1 man (Parker's responsibility). Parker completely whiffed on his block and not to mention #45 got completely pancaked on his ### by the 2 man which seemed to throw Parker off a bit on his block. Again, how do we not have players that won't get knocked on their ### ?? Its not discovering a weakness in our protection.... its a weakness in the toughness of our special teams players... especially the ones playing left TE on FG/XP
And then got to 5:04 on the film.... we made the field goal, but look at our left TE (#45) get knocked on his butt again.
And then 45 gets knocked on his butt again at 6:04 on a made field goal
At least 45 was put on the bench in the Louisville game for number 75... who got knocked on his rear end. At least our starting LT Miller didn't get knocked on his rear end.

So #45 and Parker are DLs that aren't trained to block. Don't we have OLs available?

I wonder what the record is for having FGs blocked in a season? Maybe this team can set one record. I never thought I would say it but thank goodness basketball starts tomorrow.

I do not know, but we are ranked first in blocked field goals allowed (or last in not allowed blocked field goals) depending on your point of view.

Just read in Dabo's pressor, that P Woods was the left TE on FG/XP after the FSU game. The reason whey #75 was thrown in there on the first FG is b/c they "were scrambling" to get someone in there when PWoo went down in the first quarter.
Then #75 was ran over by the #3 and blocked the first one.
Most embarrassing part of this for #75 is he is a redshirt senior offensive lineman (Trent Howard). Think by now he'd be able to absorb a rush and not get knocked on his rear end. That said, I will chalk it up as a bad play. It is different when you drive out during run blocking or absorbing a rusher on pass blocking as you are moving backwards than having to do it standing still as you do in FG/XP protection.... but that said it is a coaching failure to not coach him up on the steps and having to scramble to throw a guy in there who is not ready.
After Trent Howard failed at being the left TE, the coaches scrambled and threw Blake Miller as the left TE on the second blocked field goal, but he took the wrong steps back, and Parker took the wrong steps out and allowed the #2 to come in untouched to block the FG. It also was probably last second and Blake Miller took steps like he was playing tackle on a 3rd and 35 trying to gain depth on a fast rushing DE and open up the hole for the block... again, coaching on the steps.
Considering the number of special teams only coaches we have on staff now, this is inexcusable.
Parker I think has been the left wingman all season.
