“fans of size” are now required to purchase 2 seats @DV

Jul 14, 2022, 5:20 PM

According to an Assistant AD I know - fans may be required to buy an extra seat if they cannot fit into a single seat in their ticketed section or be moved with their party to a different section with more room. They are going to have sample seats outside all gates where fans can self measure themselves. Clemson will not be enforcing this initiative this year but may in future years. This year's hope is that fans understand the seating width constraints prior to entry so that they can take proactive measures.

Thoughts?

What will the policy be for 'special fans of size' who happen to be parents of players or recruits?

Will they be required to pay extra for 2 seats?

I doubt it.

Then, what do you think will happen when 'regular fans of size' who do end up paying more.

When the seatbacks they lease to us fit in the allotted space, then fine. As of now, my 2 seatbacks cover about 2 1/2 allotted seats…

Of course most of the numbers on the seats in my section are gone anyway, so who knows if anyone is even in the right space.

two seats on a plane for being too fat. Had a guy sit next to me on a flight to LA for five hours and his flank lard was hanging on my right leg. Should I have had to support his blubber because he chooses to overweight and not exercise? Somehow, some way, folks should be accountable for how much space they take up.

Re: Well, ya gotta buy

Jul 14, 2022, 6:06 PM

I was on a flight one time, sitting in my aisle seat and this woman came down the aisle and you could tell everyone with an empty seat next to them was holding their breath hoping she would go past. Of course she had the middle seat next to me. She was hanging over and under the armrest so far I was having to lean out into the aisle. The flight attendant saw this and came up and told me there was no one in the last row if I wanted to move but that was the only empty seats on the plane. She said they wouldn’t be able to get the cart down the aisle if I stayed where I was. I moved.

I agree, but there are people that have actual medical problems that has caused them to be grossly over weight, and Clemson would get sued and lose if they try that pay for two seats deal for those people!!! That would be no different than telling a woman that she had to buy two seats if she was 8 1/2 months pregnant. What if the person that sues, would ask that all seats to be made bigger in their suit as part of their settlement!!!

Re: “fans of size” are now required to purchase 2 seats @DV

Jul 14, 2022, 6:20 PM

Don’t get me started on space between rows…unless you’re under 6ft there is just not enough space, at least in my section.

If I sit, with my back pressed firmly in the seatback, I have to spread my knees to go on either side of the person in front of me or they will have them in their back. I stand most of the game but then have to deal with all the “down in front” people.

It’s gotten bad enough that I decided to bite the bullet and go to the Masters Club. It was either that or just stop going.

Re: “fans of size” are now required to purchase 2 seats @DV

Jul 14, 2022, 6:26 PM

I purchase the seat backs for this very reason. I am small and the guy beside me is not. I need the seat back to mark my paid for territory.

For those that did not just fall off of the cabbage truck…

Remember when BC Inabinet had a personalized larger seat in Littlejohn?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: “fans of size” are now required to purchase 2 seats @DV

Jul 14, 2022, 6:56 PM

BC had a personalized seat wherever he went. At the Shoney’s on Beltline in Columbia, he had his own booth. He held “court” there whenever in town. What a character! When I was a young boy, loved that he got his old high school’s (Dreher) dressing rooms for Clemson to use the last few years of Big Thursday. I use to go there and get a few autographs and speak with the players.

Re: Nobody at Michigan fits in their seats

Jul 14, 2022, 11:24 PM

Absolutely, when I was going to a lot of game, I only weighed around 190, and the seat space just felt to small, and it entered my mind every time, that it was that way so they could make more money by giving people a bare minimum of space!!!!

Jul 14, 2022, 11:30 PM

What is the law on the seat size would be my question, and I don't have a dog in the fight but, if I was still able to go, and the space felt to small when I was 190 lbs, I'm sure it would feel to small with me at 220 now!!!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why is a law necessary to determine seating?

Jul 15, 2022, 12:31 PM

Seems straightforward…I pay for x amount of reserved space with each ticket. If someone with a broken leg comes to a game, they don’t automatically have the right to intrude other people’s space by propping their leg up wherever they want. Most would accommodate accordingly but it’s not a right.

Cannot afford one seat now. This ruling must be affected by climate change. As to fitting in one size for all, I can really afford to sit in my lounge chair and get up to rage at the TV. Remember this, when only fat cats can afford their seats, they will only cheer when things are going well.

Maybe allow people to buy the space they want. All tickets are sold by the inch.

Another thought, is Myself and others work very hard to stay in shape, eat right etc. etc. I’ll buy expensive football tickets and plane tickets, how is it fair that some overweight blob gets part of my seat? I was once in an elbowing contest with some fat sweaty businessman on a plane one time Who felt like his arm was entitled to my lap. Fortunately, the flight attendant recognized the problem and moved the fat guy. Same with stadium seats, just because you’re too fat to sit in your seat doesn’t mean you get part of mine, I’ll literally shove you out of the way

In fact I don't like sitting near "the Poors" their failure may rub off on my success. Be tolerant, the incidence of someone pushing into your space is probably very low.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Further analysis, this is even dumber than I thought:

Jul 17, 2022, 4:08 PM

Math people will "get" this. The Law of averages wins on this one. You have many, many seats across a row, all an average size or some standard - say, 18 inches. They are certainly not partitioned in any way - just marked. Not like in a plane. Some seats will have people much thinner, like kids or skinny people. And some will have bigger people. Average it all out over the entire long row, no problem. Everybody just fits themselves in like you sometimes do in a church pew that is tight. All of us who have been to "packed" stands over years know what I am talking about. Courtesy and common sense spacing rules.

So what is the deal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wish they’d mandate this on flights as well.
