Every sports website I go to has a link to Dabo's

"we'd probably win 5"
Let me preface this by saying I am a Dabo fan.
However, I hope he realizes how stupid that statement is. The Tigers just suffered a historic loss at home nonetheless at the hands of FSU, and he has that to say?
It makes him look delusional and it makes Clemson look bad as well.

It's because the original article was put out by the AP. Most of the major news sites feed off the AP and most of the smaller sites feed off the major news sites so...there you go.

I see that his words get under your skin. For me, I expect coaches to make nearly meaningless or overly optimistic statements in public. I'd rather he make statements people see as "silly" or "egotistical" or whatever, as long as it helps build the team's confidence. Who knows, maybe if he just said he got beat and left it at that some players might feel a little dissed.
And as far as I recall, Dabo did say the team didn't play the way they are capable. He just didn't put it in the words so many of us have been using in the forums (me included)!!!

After this game the players ought to be a little butthurt/dissed.
Take responsibility, keep your mouth shut, and go to work. That's what leaders do.

feeling butthurt/dissed as you say?
We just disagree about Dabo. I was a lot more irritated when he stepped in front of a microphone year 1 and 2. Back when he used to jump all over the sidelines like a kid. He has 'matured' a little and most of his public statements don't strike me as that outrageous or out of line. A little egotistical? Maybe. Just not the same noise that we used to hear. In two years, he might sound even MORE composed and professional. It's not like he's Saban's age. Heck, he's even a wee bit younger than Jimbo Fisher. He'll grow. At least that's my opinion....

[ in reply to you made the point that maybe if he says we just got beat ] |

is the difference. We can't know for sure, but I have to think the players that underperformed consistently (most??) are getting an "adjustment" from ALL the coaches this week. In private. In practice.
It just looks to me that it is Dabo's style to make over-positive statements for the benefit of his team (in his eyes) and not for himself or the fans. It's possible that if he just let it go with a negative statement, he might lose a little of whatever he is trying to get out of the team and each player. Respect. Dedication. Pick your poster-word.
You may disagree but I doubt any player is feeling 'coddled' this week. Could be wrong, but I doubt it.

My dear fellow Clemson fan, what I mean to say is NOT that Dabo should refuse to talk to the media. What I mean to say is that Dabo SHOULD talk to the media, and be optimistic, and defend his players, and point out the positive. That's fine and great. Here is the confusing part for a lot of people (for whatever reason)...
Dabo should say a little less. In this case, to be more specific, Dabo should have not said the idiot comment we are referring to. So, before you asked "what else should he have said".... I pray that you will understand what I mean when I say...nothing. That doesn't mean don't give a press conference, it means, leave out the stupid comments. I refuse to believe that any T-Netter can't understand that.

I am a Clemson fan and a Clemson alumnus, and I resent your arrogant tone. Maybe Dabo wishes he could have that comment back. Clearly you do, and so do I.

earlier hyperbole and false dichotomy. Two different shades of annoying.
And I pretty much agree with everything you said excluding the blowhard part and the insinuation that the consequences of Dabo's words are his alone. We all pay, albeit in minor fashion, when Clemson's reputation is damaged.
Him accepting consequences A. probably won't happen because he never backs off of his statements and B. doesn't erase him associating dumb statements with Clemson football.
And I wasn't directing all of that sarcasm at you. It was directed at the mass of people who keep going back to that d@mn false dichotomy.

Norther Tiger
I like your train of thought. I thought Dabo was a joke 3 years ago with his antics, lack of Xs and Os, and jumping up and down on the sidelines (Many of you liked that but I am not a bad guy for thinking it was Busch League)
However, he has matured and come into his own. I could do without the clichés and the ridiculous statement about 5 out of 10 but he is really turning into what seems to be a good CEO. He is not a play caller, he is not a defensive or offensive genius. He is a great recruiter and knows he can get good players and turn them over to good Coordinators. That sounds like someone who knows his limitations and capabilities and that is what makes a good leader.
I thought he took a step back to his old ways with the ridiculous statement when he could simply say hey, they beat us and we will go back to work hard and get better and get them next time
