ESPN with anonymous scouting report on QBs, including Klubnik

ESPN did an extensive scout on a number of QBs from top programs nationally, including a line on Clemson's Cade Klubnik:
"He's a good player, but he rushes things," an ACC coach said. "He's got a good arm and he's really athletic. He'll get better the more he plays."
There was a glowing analysis of the Clemson's opening opponent, with Georgia's Carson Beck:
"He's the most talented quarterback in our league," an SEC coach said. "He's a little bit skinny, but he's got the height, he's got great arm action, great velocity. He sees the field really well, and you could just tell, in the second half of the season, his confidence really grew being their quarterback. And they put the game in his hand. Prior to the Auburn game, they didn't really trust him."
"Real arm talent, touch, velocity, all that," an SEC defensive coordinator said. "And he's big. You don't realize how big that kid is until you get up on him."

A couple opinions in the piece on new ACC rival DJ Uiagalelei:
"People always had that vision: 'Why isn't he going to win the Heisman?'" an ACC defensive coordinator said. "He's definitely not going to get worse. He's going to get better. How much better? Mike's done a great job. If [Uiagalelei] goes and works out at any NFL combine, there's size, arm strength, movement, intelligence. Everybody's gonna say, 'Yeah, he could fit the NFL.'"
"He's the same guy," an ACC coach said. "He didn't just suddenly become a great player at Oregon State. I'd imagine if [Uiagalelei and Smith] liked each other that much, [Uiagalelei] would have gone to Michigan State."

He was above average at Oregon State. Top 12 in QBR and 17th overall in returning QB scores. Composite of all stats and plays. That’s better than average. Average is about where Cade scored. Not too good. Maybe Dabo wasn’t lying when he said many of DJ’s issues were outside of his control. I tend to trust Dabo.
I’m not a big DJ fan. But he is an elite athlete. He’s not DW or TL. He’s also not Klubnik. Based on sample size and stats DJ is a much better option so far.
Maybe CK takes that next step and emerges as the player he was hyped to be. I hope he does. If he can make the layups and routine plays we will win and compete with anyone.

And watching DJ play, there was absolutely nothing that screamed "elite athlete". Bad decisions, bad mechanics, missing the absolute most simple throws. Slow a foot. Big size with a canon? Sure. Thats not good enough to be an elite qb at the power 1 level. He had an elite oline and running game at oregon state and yet for all intents and purposes, he was the same player as he was at Clemson. There was no magical metamorphosis. He's just not that guy.

Beck finished 2023 with a QBR of 85.2---good enough for 2nd overall in the SEC.
Klubnik finished 2023 with a QBR of 58.4, second to last in the ACC.
Draw your own conclusions.

Let’s face it. Some things have to go our way next week.
Beck needs to have a bad game and CK has to have his best day.
Maybe Beck can have a Buck Belue kind of day.

No doubt. We have to hope that a) improved O Line play, and b) the fact that we now have legit boundary receivers who can stretch the field, gives Cade more opportunities to make plays.
But we have to find ways to keep Beck uncomfortable in the pocket. If he has time to pass, it's going to be a long Saturday.

Our offense has to catch UGA sleeping and our defense has to be smart, relatively penalty free, and sure tackling to pull the upset. I think our boys can do it!

Putting insane in front of fan is like putting tea after chai. They both mean the same thing. Fan is short for fanatic. An unreasonable love and support for a team. Being a fan already implies insanity!

Who cares. That's in the past. Give the guy a break, he's making big strides as we speak. I'm glad when I played college basketball no one put out the "Final verdict" on me as a sophomore, 'cause my game went up a quantum my junior and senior year after that. Ended up HOF for that uni. True story, just sayin'.
Why don't we just let these guys play now and quit with all the predictions that are less than zero. Including "pre-season" this and that.
