Mike Houston question

Went back and was re reading that he will be an unpaid volunteer defense analyst. He is just going to move to Clemson on his own dime and help coach without collecting a single pay check. What’s in it for him outside of gaining more experience through the Clemson program. Guys been a head coach and probably made some decent money but not sure why anybody with his experience would accept a non paying job to uproot his family for at least a year I would assume.

Dabo has assumed the role of the “Happy Ending Halfway House” Director now that Saban has retired. Not a bad deal for either party.

I'm not sure that is why Houston is coming to Clemson, but it could be among the reasons.

Doesn't he have a daughter or family in NC?

Maybe that's what he wants to be near. IDK.

Houston is from Franklin, NC in the mountains. He’s a good guy… fun but intense. He will be a big asset for recruiting and midweek practice/organization.
I have actually spent some time around him years ago… not exact mold but very Venables like

He’s not allowed to recruit. Do you mean him just being on the staff will help others recruit?

Splitting hairs, but he CAN recruit. He just can't recruit off campus. He can talk on the phone with recruits, parents and coaches. He can be involved in all on campus recruiting activities, hosting kids on visits, etc. His relationships and contacts will be a plus.

Maybe he just wanted to get in the inside to see why so many people love Clemson and when they get in Tiger Town, they don't want to leave, and it does take really good paying jobs to get coaches to leave Clemson...

Houston is getting paid $1.4 million no matter what. If Clemson were to pay him $500k, ECU would pay him $900k.
If we pay $0, ECU pays $1.4m in full.
