and we can get regular cable back? As football season approaches I am reminded of just how substandard a product streaming is, and frankly, I'm surprised the general public has tolerated it this long.

Except streaming is a billions time better for me than cable?
I can watch on a ton of different devices, apps like YouTube TV can allow me to watch 4 games at once, I can finally get 4K games that don’t look like crap etc etc
I could go on and on and on.

What do you find substandard about it? I'm not sure there's a single thing I liked more about regular cable than YouTube TV.
Pretty sure spectrum and the like will still hook you up with an old cable box if you're dying to go back though.

And they don't even appreciate your check for $250-$300 a month. I get just as good of a picture on my TV by streaming as I did with Spectrum, and I only pay YouTubeTV about $80 bucks a month...

much like everything else when it comes to technology. Cable pricing was not sustainable and last summer my internet and cable bill combined was $250/month. That was basic cable, no extras, and high speed internet. Kept internet, $100/month and Youtube is $78.
I am not mathematician, but that is roughly $70/month and only loss was Braves games. I can live with that even though I do not like it lol

Just FYI with regards to the Braves, you can watch literally any NFL, NBA, and MLB games for free on streameast or tvapp. I won't post the links right now because I want to stay out of trouble. Those same 2 sites have PPV UFC and boxing events for free as well. Same goes for almost all major college football games and men's basketball NCAA tournament games, with some limited regular season college basketball as well. The only reason you really need paid streaming or cable is if you wanna watch smaller market college sports, like baseball, soccer, softball, etc, mostly on ACC or SEC network extra or ESPN plus. Though if you do enough digging, I believe you can find some "free alternatives" for some of those as well, it's just not as easy and a bit sketchier.

My Mom has cable, and I use a streaming service. The streaming service is typically about 30 seconds behind cable. It is SO aggravating when we are watching Clemson Football, and she starts cheering after Clemson scores, and it has not even occurred on my TV!! I still hear her even I after I close the basement door.

I installed acoustical tiles on the ceiling, insulated windows, and a solid core steel door in my basement apartment and I do not hear my mom anymore. I do occasionally smell her cigarette smoke though.

Foam insulation should solve that problem, or hook a really loud airhorn up to the basement and when she stars screaming have the airhorn to blow at just a little lower than scream level. Now you have two good choices to stop hearing the screams

My experience is that streaming is an inferior product. Please do not get defensive because you had a different experience. I'm glad you have extra time to spend navigating between streaming services to get to an event you want to watch live that is actually being seen in your home on a delay even though you spent extra money to increase the internet speed in your house but it still isn't as fast as cable and Lord forbid your modem or router or internet provider go out or a microsoft update shuts down the entire system then you have no TV at all and you are running to your car to listen on the radio because you threw out your in home radio because it was stupid old technology which you replaced with your smart TV that is now just a $1000 monument to no one being able to pay you to go back the other way (cable) on your wall while the friends you invited over to watch the game on your new technology go home because they missed the big play and stop returning your calls because your party was ruined just like the last one you threw when you served egg salad that had turned at your Bridgerton viewing party because you don't have a problem and have zero complaints so the last guest leaves you an upper decker to say thanks before kicking over your dumb yard gnome that you take on vacation to photo in front of dumb landmarks as if he travels on his own as he leaves.
No offense.

I have zero problems with streaming. Welcome to the 21st century. The cord has been cut and it’s not coming back! I stream on four TV’s simultaneously on game days. Never drop a stream or buffer. Perhaps you need to get off of AOL/dial-up?! There are some decent DSL options pushing a gigabit. I have YouTube TV on spectrum gigabit internet. If you’re using T-mobile or a cell phone home internet service; that is your problem. Heavy tower usage prioritizes cell phones and will throttle back your 5G speed to 4G LTE or less during heavy traffic times.
To recap: drop slow internet and either get premium phone, power line, or cable internet. Anything else is garbage. Even when I had 400Mbs I never dropped a stream. Streaming is the present and future. Maybe get rid of the tube tv and dialup. Cable costs much more and doesn’t have the perks that great streaming does. YouTube TV having four split screens in one is reason enough alone.

No, I got an actual medal for jumping higher than anyone else in the state of New Jersey. I got another for running the anchor in the 4x100the previous year. I credit excellent coaching and superior genetics.

That sounds like my YMCA karate class. I would not consider that competitive sports.

when you started playing organized sports in the mid to late 70s and everybody got to play and everybody got a trophy?
I mean, no offense, but how bad do you have to be at organized sports if everyone gets a trophy except you? If it makes you feel any better, I would have insisted you get a trophy as well, had I been your coach.

We determined our social hierarchy with Dodge Ball, who went through puberty first, and flat out ruthlessness, like normal adolescents.

You might be in one of those areas the FCC says lacks access to "fixed terrestrial broadband service."
Those areas tend to be rural and tribal areas.
I live in Simpsonville and pay $130/month for Spectrum 5G for all our streaming needs. We have a HS student (data hog) and we both work from home.
We can simultaneously stream Law & Order reruns on one TV, Prime video on another TV, and Spotify on our phones all while conducting zoom meetings on our macbooks.
Nary a glitch.
