was an even bigger deal than the ncaa tournament? I loved going to the acc tournament. Lots of great memories. My favorite memory was being at the game where Greg Buckner dunked at the end to beat the tarholes.
What are some of your favorite memories?

i.e., 7th and 8th grade, I had a PE teacher who played basketball at NC State. He would always reserve the "TV room" during his afternoon classes so we could watch the ACC Tournament. The was back in the day when the league only had 8 teams and the Tournament started on Friday.

When it was held in Charlotte, it was the most money brought in of any multi day events.

lose in the tourney with his NYC gang of thugs. They lost so much he somehow talked the big dogs at USuC to leave the ACC. Wunnerful, Wunnerful, Wunnerful.

was the one who really wanted Usuc out of the ACC! When Usuc left and became an independent, Pepsodent Paul declared, "Usuc will become the Notre Dame of the south!" I wonder how that worked out?

Oh yes! The intensity was palpable. Incredible competition. Best coaches in the country with best players. Absolutely the greatest era of college basketball imo!

… only one team from the ACC so, yes, the conference tournament was a much, much bigger occasion.
The ACC Tournament was huge.
Back in the day, getting an opportunity to participate in the NCAA tournament was nothing but a dream for almost all of the schools in the ACC … and in every other conference for that matter.
The end of the ACC Tournament was the end of the season for some really solid teams with national championship talent and ability.

I do remember those Greensboro days. My parents used to hate all those ###** UNC fans who would try to buy up your leftover tickets as you walked out wearing your Clemson orange after a loss. So they LOVED IT when they got to return the favor and hound all those bums in blue after their loss to Buckner and Company.

expanded, as the ACC Tourney winner was the only team to get a Big Dance invite. I remember the Coots sitting home with a 25-3 record one year after being UNBEATEN in the regular ACC season, a Top 5/10 team all year, getting upset in a slowdown, pre-shot clock era game with Nancy's Taint. Cooterville was for once, understandably, incensed.

Yea I do remember when it was 8. Friday’s games were awesome. Lot of great teams and games in one weekend! Always felt one of the teams would end up winning it all.
Remember not going to school when they were in the Charlotte Coliseum on Tyvola Rd. Great times!
One year that sticks out and one player that stands out and I do not know why was Bobby Sura from Fl St. Great shooter!

My favorite memory is my first one … 1962.
In those days the first round was on Thursday and the Clemson win over NCState was while we were in school … so we enjoyed the score as well as the radio guys going nutso.
Friday night the win over Duke was way way exciting … we listened to Ray Reeve on the NCState radio network. It was awesome.

I was there for the triple overtime game between NC state and Maryland. It should have been called the national championship game.

Yes. Many premier coaches that brought a a lot of charisma to the game. Smith, coach K, Jimmy V, Holland, Cremmins, etc.

When it meant something and only the winner made the NCAA. Who was in Charlotte for the snow tornado, loss of power, and Clemson's upset of 2-seed FSU?
