Is QB1 for the opener already established?

Or is the competition open to the one who has the best body of work over the next 4 weeks?

I don't know who our championship coach will start at QB but I wish he could coach the B Ball team too.

Brad's a good guy, but I think most people would believe Dabo could get more wins out of the basketball program. That's not a knock on Brad. He's an okay dude and has done everything right with the basketball program, except win more games.

It is the origin of why he is called Dabo.

His older brother called him “dat boy,” and it sounded like Dabo, and it stuck.
I’m assuming you knew this, just wanted to let you know why I referred to him as such.

No prob, yes i knew that's the origin of Dabo. But, i have heard and seen a bunch of coots use dat boy as derogatory. And since we can't see inflection in text to well, couldn't tell if your reply was ill-willed or not.

Like KB2 and TL16or DW4 and Cole? Not sure how you drew your conclusion but history says he won’t jump into it but will pull the trigger after DJ has had a chance to win or lose the job

at this point to start the first game?
Because I don’t.
Dabo has made it clear since the spring that DJ is the starter. That isn’t going to change in fall camp, no matter how great a backup might look or how bad DJ might look.
I realize that Dabo isn’t opposed to making a chance in the middle of the season if he feels it is warranted, but for game one it’s DJ.

May the best man win.
No reason we shouldn't root for DJ though.

If you subscribe to your comment “may the best man win”, why then say no reason not to root for DJ? Do you mean root for all and “let the best man win” or are you saying we should root for DJ over the others?

Dabo made it clear in the spring that DJ is the starter ENTERING fall camp. That’s all he has said. After just a couple of days of practice he’s probably not ready to say anything different in this subject yet. He also says every year that every position is open and what you did last year doesn’t guarantee anything for this year.

This is different than the TL - KB situation. KB had a great season (compared to 2021) going into summer camp.

DJ will start and be given every opportunity to

keep his starting job. As he should. Klubnick will get time with the ones too, and ultimately the best will rise to the top. If DJ doesn't find his mental game and hold on to the reigns, then Cade will take over. Just like Dabo did with Deshaun in his 3rd game and Trevor by his 4th. No different.
But the cool thing is, if DJ can return to his better form and hold the position, then that would mean we're playing well and winning games.
If you're a true Clemson fan, then you gotta be rooting for him. He knows what's at stake. He could have gone back out west after last season. But he didn't. He chose to come back to lil ol' Clemson. He's fully dedicated to the program. He also got himself in the best shape of his life, he's worked hard on his game in the off-season, and he's a team guy who's respected by his coaches and teammates.
So yeah, let's hope for the best. Even Cade said he'd be happy if DJ kept the job because of the work he's put in, and DJ winning the job would also mean the team is doing well.

I hope dj turns out to be the million dollar man he was supposed to be. But based on last year and the spring i wouldn’t be 50 cents on him right now.

Barring injury Cade will have a mountain to climb to overtake DJ heading into Ga Tech, but you can be sure #2 will be picking it up and picking away at it day by day. We've been all about reaching mountaintops with Dabo in charge, so nothing is out of the question.

Heardan interview with Will Vandervort the other day on the radio and he said something interesting! He said in the days of Stoudt and Watson and Brant and Lawrence the coaches talked emphatically about the play and the overall knowledge of the playbook of the newcomers. Coaches made points in every interviedw to speak of specific plays and specific advancements by the Freshmen QBs. It was said that through camp it became apparent to the media that the incumbent was out classed by the newcomer. He also said that this year that has not once been the case. The coaches have been speaking well of the newcomer but nothing as it was for DW or TL, with an emphasis on nothing! The idea that this situation is anything as the other 2 were is just not accurate! Now in the event of a major meltdown or significant injury (as we witnessed last year) our QB room has 2 viable options (Hunter Johnson and Cade Klub). Last year we had both our #1 & #2 QB working through injury. Behind them we had inexperience just as we had at every other position in our 3/4 deep. Conclusion: DJ will have to have a complete mental breakdown or a significant injury to not be the #1 QB 2022. Be prepared to witness the same DJ we seen in 2020, with this years team at 100% or (close to it) health! Man proved he can play with a complimentary team around him! And if you listen Dabo has said over and over DJ will be an excellent QB before he leaves Clemson!

Considering it's happened twice already...

the coaches may not want to present the same rhetoric with Cade that they did with Deshaun and Trevor.
Another thing to consider: DJ is worse than Stoudt and Kelly Bryant. Cade doesn't have as big a hill to climb because the incumbent is severely deficient (IMO).
For the record: I don't believe for one minute Cade will start against GaTech. But I think the odds of him starting game 5 against NC State are very good if he plays well enough as a backup in games 1-4.
With the Wake Forest QB out, that game can almost be considered a gimme because they have nobody behind him. What an unfortunate thing for the young man.

It is 100% decided that DJ will start that game barring injury. What will be interesting is to see how much PT Cade gets. Does he get a series somewhat early if DJ is ineffective?

CDS wants another natty worse than any of us and understands better than any of us that we can’t get there without an exceptional QB. Based on what we all saw last year, I’d guess most of us expect CK to replace DJU as starter in the first half of the season. But the man that has brought us so much success that a 10-3 season is a “down year” is gonna make the best decision for this team, the program and the university.

didn't start against GT. Because Dabo, as we all know, is a very smart football coach. He's going to go with the third year player who started all of last year over a true freshman on the road who has never played college football. It's almost always the best bet for the team and for the freshman.
My guess (hope?) is that Cade will get a drive or two each game and he is slowly brought into the game so that he is ready if/when his time comes.
