He is unfortunately the best option available I think. Offensively, he can sometimes get a hold of a pitch & hit it out, but more often than not he’s a walking strike out. It’s really frustrating to watch how often he fails to put the ball in play & chases pitches that are not close to being in the strike zone. However, with that being said I could live with that if he was a great defensive catcher or even a good defensive catcher. From what I have seen he is a subpar defensive catcher with very poor ball blocking skills. He is always good for 2 to 3 passed balls every game. I think he is as good as we got unfortunately.

Bakich very clearly values good defense up the middle over offensive fortitude, ex. Jarrell and Ciufo. We’re very fortunate to have Purify at 2B and Cam in CF who can also hit while providing incredible defense up the middle. Sometimes you can forgive an excellent defensive shortstop and catcher for coming up a little short at the plate, but it can be very frustrating when they strikeout 3-4 times per game.
