I think a big problem is that DJ continues to stare down his receivers. A lot will change if the coaches can teach him to look off defenders.

I agree. I don't think we're going to score many points against a defense that has any pulse at all. Thank goodness aside from uga, we don't play one this year.

Lot of folks sitting at home can guess right on too many of our plays. We’re not all Tony Romo either. If that’s the case, how hard is it for opposing players and D coordinators who watch tape and do this for a living? First example that comes to mind is the first play of today’s game. They tried to doctor it up with an unbalanced formation but in the end, it as still just a WR screen.
Re: DJ staring down his target, I think that’s also a problem. If you rewatch the games you can see he does it a lot. Last week pitch 6 was another example.

You're not calling plays. You may call a run a run or a pass a pass, just like can be done to any team, but you aren't calling the plays.
To use your example, you didn't call a WR screen on the first play.

You’re missing my broader point, we run too many similar type plays. Any Clemson fan can watch us line up and if it’s trips to one side, blindly guess WR screen and they’ll be right too often. Even if defenses do the same thing (I’d like to think they’re better than nearly everyone at home) it helps explain the OP’s observation that it seems like defenses know our play calls. Our scheme and DJ staring down his first option make it easier for defenders to be in the right place.

Maybe teams started copying Venables and stealing signs so they know what play is coming?

Well, to be fair, we only seem to run about a dozen plays so its not like they haven't seen them all already. Whether that's because our players suck too badly to learn new plays, our coaches suck at building an unpredictable offense, or both, is the question.
