IYO, that is no different than me thinking Bud Light is the best. It's mostly what ever you're use to drinking. I've been drinking Bud Light for so long, that I won't drink or even taste any other beer!!!

I'm with you. I drink Bud Light and pretty much Bud Light only. I know what I like and don't want waste my time and money on some craft beer that tastes an old wet dog in an attempt to look cool or beer savvy. I got decades with this old reliable and I'm not alone, Bud Light is the #1 selling beer in America.

Haha awesome post. I can’t stand people that go out and buy craft beers just because they think they’re cool. Have fun drinking something you don’t even know tastes like #### lol and waste your money

Re: Ditto

Apr 8, 2018, 7:59 AM

On a side note. Where do these folks find all these craft beers? If I need to go on a beer run I can find Bud Light EVERYWHERE. Most of the craft beers mentioned I've never heard of or seen anywhere. Outside of your local area if you're thirsty I guess you have to try something different.

My grown sons don't drink Bud Light and give me grief over it. It's an old school thing I guess.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is really hard to find craft beer these days

Apr 9, 2018, 2:08 PM

You have to go to places like the grocery store, a convenience store, a beer/wine store or someplace out of the way like that.

Attended a crawfish boil where I choked down a Coors LIght and then moved on to a beautiful NE IPA by Outer Range Brewing. Now I'm having an Oat NE IPA by Cerebral Brewing...all in all, a good Beer Day.

Apr 7, 2018, 11:50 PM

At least you made up for it with what sounds like good beers. I haven't been to Denver in a while and haven't had the pleasure of enjoying any of Cerebral's beers but I have heard from a few friends there that it's awesome stuff. And I just looked up Outer Range Brewing.. that's actually about 5 miles from where I was when I was last out there. I was in Silverthorne staying in the Wildernest neighborhood for Christmas a few years back.. Beautiful country out that way and hope to make it back to Denver and the mountains soon.

The next one...

Apr 8, 2018, 12:02 AM

Seriously too many beers to have a beer of choice for me.. I like to mix it up. I am certainly IPA heavy with my tendencies but I also love a good porter, stout or saison. Typically in my beer cooler it will be about 50-60% IPA's and then a mixture of porters, stouts, sours, etc.

I live in Northern Virginia area and I stay local for a lot of my beer. Crooked Run makes a great IPA called Heart and Soul that I drink often. Aslin releases 3 -5 beers a week that are mostly NEIPAs that are always pretty good. I make it by there as often as I can. Vanish makes a good series of NEIPAS called Ghost Fleet that I enjoy. Fairwinds makes several good IPAs, as does Ocelot. Other breweries that are often in my beer cooler are Evil Twin (they have had some killer releases of late), Commonwealth Brewing, Adroit Theory, Kindred Spirit, Hardywood and Old Bust Head.

Good choices. The owner of Bolero went to Clemson, unfortunately their beers usually seem to sound better than they taste. Which OH did you have?

I went with Equilibrium Dhop 5, NEDIPA, and Hudson Valley Bloom, Sour DIPA today.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: National Beer Day what's your beer of choice

Apr 8, 2018, 8:33 AM

Wow had no idea about the Bolero-Clemson connection! That’s awesome. You’re right that many of theirs don’t pan out but One Hoof in Front of the Other is a pretty solid NEIPA effort. The OH I had yesterday was DDH Double Mosaic Daydream. Yummmmm

Re: National Beer Day what's your beer of choice

Apr 8, 2018, 9:26 AM

His name is Bob Olson (Bolero Snort is an anagram for Robert Olson), met him maybe 4 years ago at a beerfest when they were really new and he seemed like a nice enough guy. Had some good Clemson discussion.

DDH DMDD is one of the best OH beers, probably my favorite outside of the 3rd and 4th anniversary beers. Did you go yesterday for the Triple Cream TIPA release?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yall are making me jealous with the OH talk...

Apr 8, 2018, 10:21 AM

I have heard nothing but great things about them and haven't been able to get my hands on them to date. I travel overseas often for work and need to make a trip there next time I am home. And sucks when I am gone, no NEIPAs or any IPAs really where I go.. But I have the luxury of Aslin being only 20 mins from me..

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yall are making me jealous with the OH talk...

Apr 8, 2018, 12:51 PM

OH does make a lot of good beers, but the can release experience has become unbearable. When I first started going 2 years ago you could get there at 7 or 8 am and be within the first hundred people for a 10am release. Now people camp out overnight and at 7am you're likely to be #400 in line. Too many mules that buy full allotments and illegally resell for 2 times the cost. I've heard good things about Aslin, hopefully it's not the horror show that OH is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yea, that's a bit absurd and as much as I love a good beer..

Apr 9, 2018, 10:05 AM

I don't think I would wait for that. Some of Aslin's releases can be pretty crazy but nowhere near to that level. If you go directly at 1500 on a Thursday then rest assured there will be a line of 100 people. However, I have taken the chance of waiting to go later in the evening at the risk of something beer sold out and there been no line at all. They move the line pretty quick, do a good job of limiting how much you can purchase and brew some pretty big batches with most in the 100-200 case range with limits of 1 4 pack to a case depending on the popularity.

Apr 9, 2018, 10:29 AM [ in reply to Re: National Beer Day what's your beer of choice ]

I didn’t go this weekend but I had Triple Cream in its prior release and it was pretty special. I also agree that the 3rd/4th Anniversary beers were amazing! And I agree with the other comments above and below regarding the can release scene at OH. I’d almost rather drive 2.5 hours further to Charlton where I can now get like 90 cans of Tree House on a Friday LOL!

I guess I could be called a beer snob, but I tend to treat beer like I treat soda or fast food. It's not a daily thing, and while Bud Light and its contemporaries are perfectly drinkable, if I'm going to have a beer, I'd rather it be something "good." The same way that if I decide I'm going to have a fast food burger, I'm probably not going to McDonald's even though I don't explicitly hate McDonald's.

Duck Rabbit Milk Stout is one of my favorites, but I'm also the guy who goes to a restaurant and orders the beer I haven't heard of.
