Bottom line - Simple Analysis

During a football game, "stuff happens." Can you question a playcall? - Sure. Can you question OL play, WR play, a missed block by the RB, defensive playcalling (only rushing 3) - sure to all. We only question the call when the "outcome" isn't what we want. BTW, we only rushed 3 later in the game that ending in a sack (3rd and long) - yet, that was a good play call - just saying.

At the end of the day, If we make a 29 yard field goal, we likely win. Clemson (or any top program) should not have ever been in a position to where we could not confidently put in a kicker that would hit 95 out of 100 29 yard field goals. Sorry, but fans would not have micro-analyzed all of this other stuff (which is part of the game) if we just made a routine, short field goal.

Tnetters question almost every play. When the Tigers win, they are told to get over it and not be so negative. When the Tigers lose, the defense mechanisms decrease.

Didn't our other kicker leave (transfer portal) when it

became apparent that he was going to lose the kicking battle?

I agree with your point - if we hit a 29 yard FG - folks would be saying "We're awesome! Without the scoop and score, we win by 10+ !"

I will say that it APPEARED we were playing for the FG there at the end. That seems unwise when your kicker wasn't even on the team last week...

If we would have won, I would still be saying what I've said all along. If we would have won with a made 29 yard FG, the stats would still be that we shouldn't have been in a situation where that FG was needed to win....

True. I remember the NC State game at Clemson years ago (believe 2016) where their kicker missed the game winner, routine kick. I believe he missed several others that game. That year, we won the Natty. With a made kick by NC State, we would likely never had a chance to play for the Natty (lost to Pitt that year). We need to get back to the swag and confidence where we are winning because things are going our way, instead of vice versa. Strongly believe that this is a mindset, and not just luck.

How do you know Weitz would not make 95 out of 100?

and the original poster said a good program should have someone who would make 95/100.

Statistically, don't think so. Sure, I guess you could also say that he can miss 5 in a row, but then make 95 in a row. But the point is not about the FG kicker, its that Clemson should not have put itself in that position (from a coaching standpoint). Premier programs seem to have the kicking game under control. BTW, kudos to the kicker - takes a lot to step out there with the pressure - so I don't blame the kicker - coaches are responsible.

And, he hadn’t even been on this year’s team, so no real workouts, either. I’m surprised he did as well as he did.
