I see in 1950 the city of Syracuse had a population of 220,583 and in 2011 it was down to 145,170. It will disapear eventully at this rate.

Onondaga County's population peaked in 1970, the metro population is at an all time high actually. Metro Syracuse is essentially in line with Metro Columbia or Metro Charleston in population. It could fit right in with similar metros in the Carolinas. Even the overall cost of living is similar to NC.
