Dawned on me over the Open Date that we are bowl eligible already.

That hasn't been much of a boom signal here for a long while so not much discussion.

Sounds like a Win for the off week.

Go Tigers!

Bowl eligible doesn't mean much now.

The playoffs are what matters.
There are fewer good bowls available for non playoff teams with the good bowls being playoff games, too.

The low level bowls are meaningless except for playing backups.

There could be several options outs from the best athletes that have NFL prospects.

Tell that to the coots that stayed home last year

True… For Clemson bowl eligibility has been kind of a given since Dabo took over and fans are quite spoiled. But bowl eligibility is still huge for a lot of schools. I graduated from Charlotte and I was at the game that rainy night Nov 23, 2019 when they upset Marshall and became bowl eligible for the first time in school history. The 10,000 in attendance stormed the field. It was a huge deal. They haven’t been bowl eligible since.

ACC Bowls like the Pop-Tart, Gator, Holiday and Duke's are meaningless now.

If anything though, the bowl games gives us extra practices which can especially be helpful for backups to get more practice/game play in

I agree that bowl games give players that have not had as much experience an additional opportunity for practice and game reps. So I am glad its an option for them. That said, these bowl games charge a premium price to have the pleasure to watch said backups. And I think they (Bowls) are killing themselves. In fact the only reason they sell any real number of tickets is because the school is on the hook for buying them. Which basically makes any real "bowl revenue" a joke.

I just looked at the Pop Tarts bowl. I could not find ticket prices through the event yet. I did see on stubhub that there are decent, lower level sideline seats that are $200+ a ticket. I kind of cringe having to pay that kind of money to watch the guys that played the last 20 minutes of both the Standford and UVA games..

I fear that the crazy ticket prices, the playoffs, and players sitting out has killed the bowl game experience. If we dont make the playoffs, I will go to/ or invite some friends over to the house. Fry up a turkey or something like that and watch the scrimage at home. Seriously surprised some of the bigger schools have not tried to find a way to host a fan appreciation day and have an additional home game in late December or early January in place of the bowl game. Alabama scheduled a scrimage with Hawaii when they were on probation. I see potential in that line of thinking. I think you could sell more tickets and concessions, control cost, and overall make more money for the program than participating in these bowl games. I am curious with revenue sharing being a thing how long it takes before we see a 8 game home schedule. 2 years tops, is my prediction.

There are 45 FBS bowls, counting the CFP first round but not counting the national championship game itself, resulting in 90-4=86 teams needed (the "-4" is due to the winner of the first round of the CFP teams playing in 2 "bowls")

There are 134 FBS teams.

This means that 64% of FBS teams will be invited to a bowl.

So, being "bowl eligible" means you have avoided being in the bottom third.

Yippee!!!

(Please check my numbers, since this is from just a quick data gathering from the interwebs.)

Thanks, I feel consoled now.
