There is already a thread on it, but I went back and listened to national talk show host and former SportsCenter anchor Dan Patrick talking about a source he's confident in saying to watch out for Clemson, Miami and Florida State and a move to the SEC. Haven't seen a podcast link yet but here are the relevant portions of it:
"I would keep an eye on what's going to happen with the ACC. Because my source told me, as soon as I saw the USC-UCLA situation...my source said keep an eye on Clemson, Miami and Florida State joining the SEC. And I thought, if that happens -- game over.
"What you're going to have is you're probably going to have two conferences. You're going to have the SEC and the Big Ten. And we're going to re-name them the AFC and the NFC (like the NFL). That's really what it's coming down to. The college version of the AFC and the NFC. I've said this for years that this is where we're headed and I truly believe it's where we're headed. Because if you get to 2025 and all of a sudden we're going to change what's going to happen with the playoffs and how many teams get in -- this is going to be professional football.
"If Clemson, Miami and Florida State join the SEC, there's going to be casualties -- and there should be because there are some programs that aren't worthy of playing big-time football...My source says that Notre Dame was not going to commit. Didn't think there was going to any commitment. Maybe, if they do, it would be the Big Ten. That would make the most sense. But they don't have to is what I was told. But keep an eye on Clemson, Miami and Florida State. If they join the SEC, then it's mic drop time."

I certainly hope not. Not a fan of the SEC because of their dishonesty. I would really dislike us being a part of that conference. College football, as we knew it, is extinct.

At age 72, I’m as big a traditionalist as there is, but the handwriting is on the wall. Changes are coming and the ACC is not going to be a part of it all. Clemson needs to look out for Clemson or get left behind.

their keysters for 40 years and let it slip away. If just 10 years ago, they would have canned the bowl system and gone to a 16 team playoff like Div 1 Double A did,(yessir, they renamed it the FCS becuause they were too concerned that Div 1 Double AA athletes would not feel as worthy as Division 1A....LOL.Personally, I was not good enough to be a Div III athlete, but I never took it pesonally. Yep, they spent their time on that crap and this is where we are today...)......anyway, we may have survived with all of the smaller,yet regional conferences intact. JMHO, which is worth as much as about anyone else....

Are you seriously suggesting the ACC is "honest"?!? Wow........UNCheat gets no punishment for their fake AFAM diplomas, they put us on double secret probation in the '80's, I could go on all day---unreal.

are the exact things that are being taken away.
CFB had distinct and innovative offenses. CFB Rules changes and the NFL draft has slowly changed that. Not many Triple option or hurry up air raid offenses left.
In CFB, the players chose the schools based off of factors that resonated with the individual fan such as fan support, stadium size, facilities, personality, atmosphere and regionality. Now with the NIL and the ability to transfer immediately, it is akin to NFL free agency with the players loyalty going as far as the biggest buck.
In CFB there were true regional rivalries and conference unity. With the formation of the Northern Football Super Conference and Southern Football Super Conference it almost perfectly mimics the NFL.
Soon there will be little reason to become a fan of college football. Might as well just follow the NFL and USFL.

Our State has several really good teams playing on lower division.. checking them out could be worthwhile.
of course, USC may soon find themselves in a lower division too... and those folks mess up just about everything they touch. They even screwed up the rivalry by being so uncompetitive.

This sounds very reasonable. Whether his source actually knows anything or is just giving a logical prediction, I have no idea.
I am very confident that, at the very least, FSU president and Clemson president have had more than one conversation about it. I'm very confident that both schools have had some sort of conversations with SEC officials. As for the specifics of those conversations or how far along in the details of an agreement they are, I have no idea.
As I said in another thread, I will be surprised if FSU and Clemson (I'm not quite as confident about Miami) do not announce they are leaving the ACC and joining the SEC. I expect that announcement to happen between now and next March.
That seems like the next logical step that will be taken.
I keep hearing rumors that nothing will happen until ND makes a decision, and they are in no hurry to make a decision. I expect them to announce, about the same time as FSU and Clemson, that they are joining the B1G. But, I don't think the SEC or FSU and Clemson has to wait on ND to announce.

They can’t technically make Clemson pay the $300 million. Now they can have it put on Clemson’s credit report, send them to collections, put a lien on Memorial Stadium.

SEC. As to when, I think the announcement and the move will happen quickly. If the SEC wants Clemson/FSU, it’s because of money. If Clem/FSU want the SEC, it’s because of money. Given this, why would either party want to wait?
I don’t think either conference will want to announce during the season because it distracts from the games. So it’s either in the next 2 months, or after the playoffs early next year.

I could be wrong, but I'm missing how the 2 major conference model is good for college football long term. I get that the SEC and B10 will get a ton of money right away, but it's hard for me to imagine this growing the national audience for college football.
I'm not saying that 100% of fans of every school outside of the 2 major ones will suddenly quit watching college football, but you have to figure that a lot of them will or will at least watch a lot less often. I realize the largest fanbases will all be included for the most part, but that's still a ton of television viewers from all around the country from the other schools.
I even find myself seeing the potential of losing interest with all the changes. I don't know if I could ever picture myself 100% not watching, but I'm someone who has basically obsessed over college football my entire life and for the first time ever I can picture it not being a priority for me. It's just too many changes in way too short of a period of time between the NIL's, the increase in transfers, and now completely blowing up the conference structures.
I'm trying to take a wait and see approach, but the whole thing is just turning me off.
