WR recruiting philosophy

Seems like for years we have just been targeting guys to win 50-50 jump balls.
Do we have any WR targets that are tall AND already skilled route runners and separators?

Do we have a coach (not named Jeff Scott) that can teach them that? That’s probably the better question.

We have athletes at WR that many teams would love to have, so what is the hang up? If Dabo is having to coach them, I’d say that’s an issue. We are lacking fundamentals, not talant.

Yes, out of 130 fbs teams there are a lot that would like our WR talent, but when you compare our 2015-2019 WR talent to now it really shows you how drastic our talent drop off has been at that position.

no we do not have wide receivers who are tall and can flat out fly and separate. That much is clearly evident on the field. We lost a bunch and we lost em quickly, and still have not replaced them.

I think Adam Randall is going to be "that guy". His ACL tear put him back; not to mention he's a young player still figuring things out.
Once he gets the playbook and full confidence in his knee again, I think between him and A. Williams we have the next generation of WRU receivers.
To your point OP; kind of. I think we have kind of had some misses and bad luck. Ladson and Ngata stayed hurt.
EJ Williams stayed hurt.
Stallato is hurt.
Collins, Dacari was forced into action early and for whatever reason though he was getting p/t he transferred.
Beaux Collins is smooth; but either teams are taking him away or he fades in games.
WE do have that Amari, Scott, Renfrow, Ray Ray, in the slot for crossing routes to match up on a LB who can't stay with them.
That play is like always there; and if it isn't it means someone on the outside has one on one: "and you simply have to throw it to where your receiver catches it or nobody". Give them a chance at least; don't air mail it.
Williams and Randall being so heavily relied on is very telling though.

Tall, fast, 50/50 ball catchers are hard to hit on. Hartline at OSU and Bama have snatched up the best talent in the last 4 years. Not sure what the answer is as I don’t know Jeff Scott’s plans. Would love it if he came back as CO-OC and CO-RC.

Jeff Scott has shown that he is not HC material - at least not yet. So someone is going to be looking to scoop him up as OC.
Brandon Streeter has not shown that he is ready to be an OC. I don't think it is all his fault - we have real weaknesses all over the offense, but it is at least a question that deserves serious consideration.
If we don't offer Jeff Scott a coaching position, it shows that Dabo is too stubborn to admit his mistake or that Jeff, for some reason, doesn't want to come back to the Clemson family.
I don't think thta Jeff is some miracle solution to our offernsive woes, but he would certyainly be a step in the right direction.

I tend to agree with what you are saying.
Jeff Scott despite what many people kept saying; was never the primary play caller throughout the two National Championship runs. Tony Elliott was. Jeff says it. Dabo says it. And Tony says it.
Jeff - in my opinion, needs to be an OC full-time 1st. Then maybe his transition to HC would have been easier. He is super talented and I believe in his football IQ still.
To your point though; as you said: "it will take more than just him"! Going back to Adam Humphries, Artavis Scott, Hunter Renfrow, Amari Rogers, Ray Ray McCloud, etc. we have had those fast guys who could get open relatively quickly on a LB. All we have are basically; "outside WR body types"!
Spector and Stellato and Will Taylor either haven't been used wisely or they aren't getting open! It's hard to tell; if it's the scheme or play calling.
But, we 100% need more speed at WR. Speed and size would be good; but right now, speed would do the offense a world of good.
