My humble overreaction

This team has talent, but is a bad football team. I think that points to coaching.
I used to have a sales boss that would jokingly say “if you’re out here making deals, I don’t care if you sleep till noon. But if you aren’t making deals, I’m going to ask you about it”
Same here with Dabo. I could care less about his use of NIL or the portal. I care about the outcomes. But when the outcome isn’t good enough, his methods have to come into question.
What’s worse about this year’s team, is it’s Dabo’s homegrown, do it my way, recruit high school kids, and “get us back on track” team. This is the junior and senior year of all those guys that were recruited over portal players and stayed in the program. And we flat out suck.
I’m no AD, but I would make Dabo clean house on the defensive staff, let Allen bring in his staff (still not sold on Allen, some things he does schematically make me scratch my head). Fire pretty much every offensive coach except Matt Luke (we have too much stock into o line recruits to let Luke go). And much to many’s Chagrin, I would retain Riley. Let him go get his own staff AND own playbook.
Hit the portal. We don’t need 20+ guys. We just need guys that can come in, start, and compete at key positions (LB, DB, IOL, QB)
This program unfortunately needs an overhaul. Neff has to have Dabo on the hot seat in 2026. I don’t care how many games he’s won at this point.
Currently not making deals AND sleeping till noon

I know it helps your defense of Dabo to act like we arent talented.

But our recruiting rankings suggest otherwise.
Surely you don’t believe that Syracuse, Georgia Tech, SMU, and Duke have more talent than we do.

The problem is we have a lot of other players on the team who have Conference USA level talent. 5 or 6 guys can't cover up for that.

Also, NFL Draft scouts were saying we have like 5-6 high draft picks on this team and which of them have actually played like NFL players so far?
Possibly quite a few. NFL talents have in the past mailed it in to avoid injury

And now they all have agents in their ears telling them they are a lock for the league and not to get hurt.

Right, that’s what I mean. Woods and Parker are NFL players. Sammy Brown probably has an NFL future, Terrell probably does as well. But none of them have played like NFL players. They’ll show it in spurts or flashes and then disappear it seems like.

It's not a defense of Dabo. There is a significant lack of talent on the roster. There are a lot of players on the roster who are simply too slow and too small for P4 football.

4 star recruits can't compete with 2 and 3 star players that have 2-3 years of playing time.

Uh, we urgently need help at Safety and Corner through the portal. And D Line. I think we're going to lose more recruits, unfortunately.

Good post. Even the supposed good talent is regressing. There is no development at any position group. 100% that is coaching. So many bad hires on the staff. Dabo went for the easy option almost every time. Roster management is a complete disgrace. The program is Dabo's vision to counter the NIL/Portal roster turnover model that everyone else is doing and it has been proven that it is an utter failure. If he is not willing to make the changes to play the game like everyone else, he needs to leave. It is not going to work, it is never going to work and it is not going to get better.

I agree with cleaning house on the staff.
I think he needs to gut the staff. Let Allen and Riley bring in “their” guys, let them take more initiative on who they go get from the portal (if they want a big time pass rusher, or a high dollar CB, or a new QB, go get him), and see how this team looks next year. Those two guys have proven that they’re good football coaches, the rest of the staff hasn’t proven much of anything.
If Dabo doesn’t do that and instead he fires Riley or Allen then it is clear that he values his friendships and country club culture over actually winning football games, and I’d pack his bags for him.

On Offense, I’d give Riley another year and keep Luke and Grisham. The WRs have been very good this year.
On Defense, give Allen a chance with his guys. Keep Rumph and maybe Reed (based on his track record) and Boulware.
Everyone else needs to go. No choice but to bring 10 or so portal guys in.
I hate that Dabos way isn’t working because CFB would be much better if it did.
