would probably be the best move, especially if this team finishes with less than 10 wins.
This was supposed to be the year that his model worked. If we don't manage to win out, then it's just proof that Dabo's model will remain unsuccessful when compared to the expectations that Dabo has set.
We will have to reset all over again with a young, inexperienced team. I don't think the fanbase wants that at all.

not unless Dabo get paid
need to not get into another big extension for a mediocre season or marginal bowl win etc next few years
time to put the sunset plan into action

Exactly. This is the best time for a transition. We lose a lot anyways so let’s hire a coach who can bring some players with him and who will attack the portal to create a competitive roster for year 1

This point is key.
No matter what, Clemson will have to reload through the transfer portal in the offseason. We are losing too much from graduation + early entry to the NFL + inevitable transfers.
Dabo will have to do the very thing that he doesn't want to if Clemson wants to be competitive in 2026. If he doesn't, then we shouldn't expect 8 wins.

Depending on how the schedule shakes out the biggest factors are how much we lose, what we don’t have to replace them and how much better teams around us continue to get. It way too early to know anything but just based on the trajectory of other programs and where we will be in 2026 we probably lose 5 games
Home games
G tech Miami
How good will unc be in bill 2nd year? How good will vtech be with new coach? Do we lose to scar for a 3rd straight time at home?
On the road against
LSU FSU Duke How good will Syracuse and cal be?

We may be loosing some players, but they have not shown themselves to be irreplicable. It is not like we are loosing a bunch of "dawgs".

Very true but what’s behind them isn’t any better and if we don’t go to portal for around 15 players we won’t even have a depth chart

If he doesn't start using the portal more than his last years at Clemson won't be fun. That seems obvious.

I don't want to exaggerate, but I truly believe we probably need to bring in at least 12 from the portal.
They don't all have to be starters. But we need a bunch of dudes that are ready to make an impact.

Two books:
Abundance by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson (highly recommend)
Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari (one of my favorite authors)

Nice!
I have Ezra Klein's book but haven't delved into it. Thought you would be reading Marx.
I am still trying to work my way through (began in late July): Socialism: An Economic and Sociological Analysis by Von Mises.

He's my guy regardless
I don't want another coach
But the writing is on the wall at this point.
He can choose to be stubborn if he wishes and that's fine. It's unfortunate. But fine

He's my guy too. Short of making the playoffs this year and a complete turnaround, I feel strongly this is the year Dabo goes all in on the portal. Leon and others make a strong case and this is a good debate.
However, with the scholarship change and no walk-ons, and the 18 mil we can pay, Dabo won't have to worry about kicking someone off the team. Therefore, I strongly believe we'll do 12 or so.

He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that just retires under circumstances like this unless he has something waiting for him. If both sides are really unhappy, I could see them possibly coming up with a negotiated buyout amount they could both live with.

I agree but I don't think that's the case here. At least not yet.
He's still full of fire. He wants to stay
I don't doubt there are programs that would line up to take him....and pay even more than he currently makes.

Unless a small miracle happens, you’re right. We’re not going to win out.
We’re gonna keep hearing about the past.
But Dabo is not going to retire. If we pull a Norvell and go 2-10 he won’t retire. He’s just gonna talk about how we’ve been so good the last 8/12 years.
And I’m one of the biggest pumpers on here. I’m a Dabo guy. I’m all for his statue. We need to rename it to Dabo Swinney Memorial Stadium.
But the day of Dabo being great is over at Clemson. I durn sure hope I am wrong but this was the year all of my pumping was supposed to be right and we’d be the team we haven’t been in 6 years.
But we ain’t. Got all these shiny toys and yet the playground is falling apart.
—
Clemson is gonna have a hard reset. We won’t be good for 2-10 years. It’s gonna suck.
But we need it.

Put up the statue and move on. It would be better for both parties.
