Dabo MADE decisions on what’s best for our Future TEAM
Dec 7, 2022, 1:26 PM
|
|
DJ was rooming with Brian Bresee who lost his sister and needed a guy who could lift him up.
DJ was the leader and helped Brian through a really tough time. Dabo’s decision was what was best for the team and not losing a bunch of starters to the portal.
Dabo has the pulse on the team and how the leadership and love affect the players as family. If he had benched DJ and he left then Brian would have lost his support system after losing his sister.
The decision to bench DJ during this time had to be tough but trust Dabo in knowing what was right for the future of Clemson Football.
We don’t begin to know how a close family reacts when the top two players/leaders who room together face tough times together.
Dabo did what was right for the family, sometimes winning is losing when looking at the future and how it can be affected.
Thank you Dabo, I didn’t understand why you didn’t play the kid sooner but you have earned our trust as an incredible leader!
I know you did what you thought was best for Our future!
Go Tigers!

I'm with you right up to the SC game. Apparently, after that game, none of that mattered which means it probably would not have mattered if the change was made in the 2H of the SC game either.

That will forever be a head scratcher and even though there's no regrets... Dabo did say he wished he'd done a lot of things in that game. I agree. Didn't really have to bring cade in, but just kept running. No huddle kr etc etc.
Plus, had we eked out a dub, we may have crapped the bed in acc championship game. I can live with the way it turned out. Just happy the way it did end.

wouldve lost the locker room? Yall give me a break with this stuff. Early in the season, maybe. But it was obvious to everyone that DJ wasnt the guy after the BYE week. And Im sure the players loved hearing Dabo talk about their drops, blown coverages, and missed blocks while he was saying is wasnt DJs fault.

Now you're just an a**hole. You can't possibly have that much love and support for the basketball team and be such a d**k about the football team. Apparently all the annoying people that disagreed with you and gave you a hard time about your support of the basketball team and what you thought it needed to succeed made you want to be one of them. That's a mixture of irony and hypocrisy. Thought you were better than that. Oh well.

it's a slippery slope HumbleServant® when Clemson coaches do not start our best players at every position -- QB being by far the most important.
With 21 Clemson players recognized on the 1st/2nd/3rd/Honorable Mention All-ACC teams, and DJ not one of those 21, there is a legitimate basis to state DJ was truly the worst starter on the 2022 Clemson Tiger team.
IMHO playing DJ ahead of Klubnik absolutely cost Clemson the SC game. The ND game is debatable and unknowable. It's a country club approach to play in a conference so poor that coaches can base their personnel decisions on the team's emotions & feelings and not their skill sets.
Dabo has lost some credibility with portions of the fan base, but winning resolves that issue longer term. I respect your guidance to "trust Dabo" but question when we do not play our best players nor play "to win the game" with our best available weapons.

Cade doing very freshman things at practice like spiking the ball on 4th down during 2 minute drills, flipping balls onto the ground and throwing right to DB's. They know he is super talented and they also know he didn't need a confidence crushing event either. He looked very good against a very bad UNC D that was down 2 starting DB's. I have high hopes for Cade and am very excited about his future, but let's keep this thing in perspective.

You been to practice or just making upcrap...he did not do any of those things in HS...I saw 10 or 11 of those games televised, live! If that's what youare doing on a regular basis you don't just wake up one morning winning MVP and looking like an all american! It's magic and DJ was no magician...now once upon a time in a land far away Cade became a QB?

An incredibly thoughtful post.
The loss of Ella had an even bigger impact on the entire team than many realize. Lawton Swann had a guest on his radio show several weeks ago that spoke about this. If I recall correctly he was a reporter that covers Clemson from the Post and Courier.
As I recall, this interview happened well after most of the media had moved on to other topics. While I knew the team was in grief, the severity of it really hit me when this reporter took the time to discuss Ella's impact on the team, when he could have chosen to focus on other things.

To OP...all good points.....at this point its all water under the bridge. I would say ppl need to look at dated stories posted by TN (sorry David H.) that keep stroking this narrative.
But the question must be asked: When Cade was brought in multiple times in earlier games to "rescue" the team during off days by DJ....why not during usuck game...particularly since DJU was injured in the second half??? Dabo is 1000% right....it wasn't all his fault and the dropped passes, TOs and defensive busts were killer. But make no mistake, DJ was borderline horrid in the second half of that game...no offense to the kid...similar to SYR/ND games

Interesting but I just can’t buy it. A sports crazy family would almost certainly be repelled by the notion of their child’s death somehow influencing playing time for their own kid let alone his roommate. That just isn’t the way competitors’ minds usually work. And when you lose a teenager to this horrible disease, for the first few weeks you barely eat or sleep. You try to appear normal for the sake of others, but most of your waking moments you think about one thing. You do not care the tiniest bit about who starts on a football team.

Total non-sense-------he is not running a counseling service . The College has experts for that. His job is to put the best product on the field. He is paid $ 11 million a year to do run a football team.

That is such a full of crap argument. Like you paid any noticeable portion of that . Like you're somehow deserving and entitled to your expectations being fully realized. If this really is how you view things you might want to reflect on the many, many times you've failed to flawlessly fulfill the expectations others have had of you.

Dabo could have done all the above and gave Cade time in the 2nd half. While I feel good about your sentiment, I would feel better if Dabo gave our team an alternative shot at winning. If Cade made a few plays to beat the Coots, then he still could have started the 3rd series. It was still poor coaching anyway it is considered. DJ, while a great person isn't bigger than Clemson and Dabo surely should not be!!
Dabo's lack of saying he messed up or could have tried different possible scenarios would be a great start!!! The arrogance is what is killing fans even moreso than the losing. If Dabo looked in the mirror and told fans some truth around the perspective would do wonders around future support.

If Dabo had put Cade in the second half of the South Carolina game, something we all think you should’ve done, and if Cade would’ve won the game, something we all think would’ve happened, then nobody would have any complaints about Dabo today. All criticism is because of his lack of willingness to pull DJ during the South Carolina game, and putting in Cade.
If Dabo puts Cade in, we likely win the game, and we’re in the college football playoff. That was a stupid mistake on Dabo’s part and he deserves criticism for that one stupid decision.
That’s my only complaint.

I'm not sure where the narrative that DJ is so soft comes from. From my viewpoint, it seems to me that DJ's mental issues come from being too hard on himself. He always seems to say and do the right things. He seems to work even harder when he has bad games, and hasn't shied away from the criticism.
I agree that much of DJ's problems are in his head, but I don't think any of them cause a need to be babied. DJ nor any of the other teammates would have been any less supportive if the competition with Cade had come sooner.

And everyone gets a trophy. And down is up. And winning is losing. Oh - you used that one already. And the latest: Dabo's "playing the long game."
Yeesh. Y'all too much. Let's all join hands around DV and sing songs to Dabo's inscrutability.
