D did enough to win - here is my Wes Goodwin criticism

As I said, the D did enough to win. Yes that’s true but they did enough to win in spite of being schemed poorly. Wes ran man coverage almost exclusively. Zone allows you to keep your eyes on the QB, which is what you want with a mobile QB. So why not run zone? Well, we haven’t done it all year.
BV was multiple. He gave different looks and ran a mix of man/zone. When something worked or it was schematically advantageous he leaned more heavily into it.
Wes said he was going to simplify things. That was his big strategy. It has failed. The players were not put in a position to achieve success. The players were talented enough to make plays in spite of the defensive structure. That’s on Wes.
The defense did enough to win based on player talent, in spite of poor coaching.
There are a lot of things to be said about ST and Offense too. But that’s my hot take on D.

Multiple turnovers and held them to 17. Especially great effort in the 2nd half when the O couldn’t put a drive together. If the O had a pulse in the 2nd half, Clemson wins easily.

3 turnovers and only 17 points in modern college football isn’t terrible. Considering they were set up to fail structurally by the coaching, it wasn’t bad. I’m just saying it was the coaching and not the players. Man coverage against a running QB is just not smart. But it is the one arrow in the quiver.

Too much trying to strip the ball instead of bringing the runner down.

And his poor coaching is being covered up, somewhat, by elite talent. He is doing less with more. Needs to go. Had his shot.
