Current feelings towards it all and Im not alone

I don’t need a $martA$$ response I’m just here to vent on how iv changed the last year plus about college football and unfortunately that means Clemson football … and I’m nowhere close to the minority here just about everyone iv talked to in my age group and friend group (also mid 30s I may add) fell the exact same regardless of the team if it’s uga, Clemson, or scar friends.
I am a graduate of this great university and have loved Clemson football with a crazy passion for my entire life. Grew up going about every weekend and as an adult and having a lot of other things going on including moving about 3 hours away it’s just alot harder to get up every sat. I simply will say that a lot of ppl are losing interest like they used to and this whole underwood and Michigan crap just really did it for me. I’ll always love Clemson football and watch intently but losses now don’t bother me in 5 minutes whereas it used to have me pi$$ed until we won again. I cried tears of joy when we won the natties it meant a ton. But this crap we are seeing now is disgusting and I’m done spending that type of money coming like I used to. Don’t get me wrong given tickets or asked to go I still will but not going out of my way anymore … and college football did that has nothing to do with the performance we have had the last few years…the entitlement of these brats is ridiculous and to be honest it’s not even their fault … it leads back to the most inept organization iv ever heard of in my entire life in the NCAA, it’s a complete joke and cares nothing about the “student athlete”… main issue is that enough will always spend the money and continue watching so don’t look for change … I just watch like I watch my dolphins now and get excited over a big play and hope we win but if we lose it’s whatever and I go about my day now… and again I have a very large group of fans including mostly all Clemson , UGA, and Scar fans that feel the same way… sucks but we will never get that passion in this game like we once did.

I believe you are correct. Times have changed. It's not the same and never will be again. We were lucky to be part of it all when it was great.

College football has changed to something unrecognizable to what it was just a few short years ago. I’m so I got to experience winning two national championships with my Son. It was awesome. However, all of that is in the rear view mirror and the game has left us. There are not enough 4 and 5 star guys that don’t care about the money. That do truly care about what Dabo is offering. A quality education, a 4 year mentorship for becoming a better person, development into a much better player over time, etc. It’s a different world and we are not changing fast enough.

He refuses to use ANY NIL money towards recruiting. None!!!
If you're going to be that stupid, then he deserves the results he is getting.

I’d love to see proof of that … but regardless my post has absolutely nothing to do with Dabo, he will Be in the hall of fame one day for what he’s done for us and this University… he shouldn’t have to change this much this is no longer college football at all and to be wouldn’t blame the guy and I’d actually be happy for him if he stepped away.

1) you're obviously an idiot 2) Dabo actually does use NIL and Clemson is in the top 20 by NIL totals and in top 10 by average $$$ per player 3) you're obviously an idiot

Dabo is setting an good example. He's doing things the right way. He truly cares about the players and the game.
NIL $$$ and the Portal is BS. Others should follow Dabos lead. Rules need to change.

No one said they shouldn’t get any money … I don’t believe that either but their could be limits and rules to all of it to where you don’t have kids driving around in brand new Ferraris and kids getting bus 10 million dollars for … that’s insane this kid could absolutely suck you know recruiting misses happen just look at us… it needs to be limited to where the university boosters don’t define what players you get and everyone can still recruit based on things that should matter more than ultimately just money , these kids aren’t professionals

Well ok, that is fine as I have said many times. Just don't complain ever about playoffs and national championships. That is tbe trade-off. Use the old methods in a new world and except 8-4/9-3 records. That's not bad, but if we are not gonna do what is legal then we must lower our expectations. Seems reasonable and simple to me.

Can you imagine how Dabo and most all other college football coaches feel about these changes? They are having to deal with it every day. The coaches and the Universities did not create this mess but are having to deal with it. This was caused by the courts and started in California and Florida from what I understand. Now some of the states including Georgia plan to allow nil in high school. I really don’t know where we go from here.

Dabo got millions and a couple of National Titles. He is all good. I feel for the coaches who haven't had so much success who are still figuring things out.

It wasn't too long ago that getting top notch facilities was all the rage. Now year in and year out teams are having to shell out insane amounts of money for one player....when you have a roster of over 80. They all need to get the same amount of money. That should level the playing field per program. If kids want to make more....then its at their own risk when they do the side deals like endorsements...etc.
When things are all fair and square....there is no more questions about the integrity of the game.

No doubt a lot of us feel that way.
Just disappointing that graduating players and growing men of character means very little anymore.
I’ve been saying all year that I wouldn’t be shocked to see Dabo give it up.

The story you link earlier was a complete hit job. When Wiggins was in his sophomore year, it was illegal for Dabo to be involved in the NIL process! Nothing that guy posted made sense given the structure of the NIL system back then.
Just because you don't like Dabo, don't take the school down out of hate...reminds me of Trump derangement syndrome and how it almost ruined the country.

If he is not going to change some of his ideas about what college football is now,to keep Clemson at a competitive level on the national stage. He needs to do what Saban did and step away. The rules have changed and Saban said I'm not going to continue to fight this yearly to be competitive,so he left. Dabo has a choice to make.

Still as passionate about Clemson football as ever but

my love for the game overall has changed.
I had a heart attack in January 2020 a few days after we lost to LSU. That November, I had a stroke the morning after we lost to Notre Dame (the next game we lost). I am ok physically now, but losses still hit me really hard still. I guess you could call me a die hard.
That said, my ENGAGEMENT with Clemson football has evolved. While I used to go to every home game and several road/postseason games, I now socialize at tailgates on game days, then head home to watch the game.
But what has REALLY changed is my relationship with college football overall. It used to be that I could watch literally any game and have an interest in it. Records didn’t matter, college affiliations didn’t matter… it was coaches and kids bound by a love for the game and a love for their school, leaving it all on the field every week. My, how that has changed.
Weser some of it at Clemson, but not to the degree that most programs do. When we get to their level, maybe my relationship even with Clemson football changes.

I and many I know feel essentially the same way. I have made a point to stop watching nearly as many non-Clemson games on tv as I used to. Used to love watching all kinds of games. But now I am just disgusted by it all.

I haven't watched a full non-Clemson game all year. I check in on the coot games occasionally hoping they are losing, but can't get into college football like I used to when I went to every home game.

I wish that I could, but I just can't come up with a single thing to argue about anything that you've brought up.
I remember not being able to sleep at night bc I was so excited about getting up on Saturday morning and packing up the car and heading to Clemson's Death Valley for the game. And when my back injury gut to where I couldn't make those trips anymore, I couldn't wait for the game to come on the TV and I wouldn't leave the house for anything a couple of hours before the game for any reason, not even if the wife needed me to run an errand for her or us. My answer would always be, you should have asked me earlier and I would make her think that my game was closer than it was of coming on.
All my friends, even my best friend knew not to call me when my game was on bc I wouldn't answer the phone, I would send it into voice mail or just turn it off. It isn't that way anymore and it isn't bc we're not at the top anymore, it mainly bc of how the rich prey on us, and they use our love for the college game to do it, and they will do anything to try and get our attention away from our game to try and sell us they're BS and it's gotten so that as soon as commercial comes on I will mute my TV and play a game of computer Solitaire while the commercials are on. They have turned the game that we loved so much to them trying to get every dime they can from us and I absolutely hate it.
Now they are using their money to steal the better players from one team and attracting them to another with their money, and ESPN is the guiltiest with their constant praising of the best players for the sec schools to go after and bring them to the sec, and ESPN helps them by paying them twice as much money than they would for any other conference, and they are the cause of fans losing the interest we use to have for college FB. They are stealing the love of the game from the majority of college FB fans...

If everyone else ( schools, coaches, support staff, TV networks, etc.) wasn’t making ridiculous money, maybe the players would feel like a scholarship was enough compensation. But when you see coaches making $$ Millions and staff flunkies making $$ Hundreds of Thousands of dollars in do-nothing jobs, it’s little wonder the players want a cut.

Bc it’s not about making money … I’m actually fine with that but the way they are playing these schools and coaches who recruit them and boosters is ridiculous… how in the world is a coach supposed to manage a roster with this crap … again I’m fine with guys making money but you aren’t a professional athlete, there should have been rules in place with limits to still keep the game what it is and still allow guys to make some money … #### even 100,000 a year is more than most ppl make a year as adults lol these kids making millions before ever taking a snap in college is absolutely insane … iv always said you shouldn’t even be eligible for nil as a freshman imo

something I didn't 40 years ago, when I was your age: the abject corruption of college football caused by one thing: money.
Thank God for me personally, my life since my days at CU in the 60's have been full with family and business matters, and remains so to this day, as I continue at age 77 to work full-time in a highly volatile business...which I love! So, I have had to put outside interests...like college football into perspective. That's why I have openly admitted to despising both the NIL and Transfer Portal bugaboos, because I knew where we were heading. I've been around too long not to have known.
I want my Alma Mater to excel in everything, including football, but what our fellow alumni and fans have to understand is that we are not...repeat, not...going to win every game; we are not going to win every conference title; we are not going to be in the CFP every year; we are not going to beat the Gamecocks every year; that's the reality of the beast. AND there is one entity that controls anything and everything about Clemson, and that's our Board of Trustees. They will understand my points; they will act with great jurisprudence, for they know the university's overriding mission: to educate. Right now, they are not going to toss Dabo Swinney to the wind.
So, what's our real option: to rely on mature perspective; to strike a balance in our passions; to accept the realities of the beast, being thankful for successes while working diligently to overcome our failures. But mainly, to carry on with our lives attending to our families, our businesses, our civic and/or religious responsibilities...and be thankful for each additional day we rise to face the sun.

You know if you think about it we may be partly the reason NIL and the portal came to be. In 2018 Coach had built such a program that the Oh Cryo States of the world would be hard pressed to match or pass us. Only way forward would be to make money more important than anything else.
