Criticizing Rick Barnes on here will draw the ire of the anti-Brownell crowd.

They love them some Rick Barnes, despite him having one very good season here followed by one of the most disappointing, underachieving teams we've ever had, and despite the fact that he bailed on Clemson and was very critical on his way out.
But to them, Rick is amazing and Brad is an idiot.

program. He was competitive in both the acc tournament and the ncaa tournament, and nobody can ever forget the Greg Buckner dunk to beat unc in the acc tournament. He had 1 player, Greg Buckner go on to have a long nba career. His players always fought and played hard and he made basketball exciting.

Rick Barnes was and still is a great coach. Basketball was fun in those days. He currently has Tennessee playing at a higher level than BB has ever had Clemson after 14 seasons. BB is not even close to RB as far as coaching and it is not even close.
Figure most would leave Clemson for Texas money. No brainer for coaches looking to get paid.

Nah I think it’s more in line with those that think Brad is a great coach. It’s so unbelievable that it’s kind of funny.
Then saying that, and I’m thinking conservatively, 75% of TNet is the fringe.
Fringe would be outliers and that is currently made up of a very small group on this board.

In 7 seasons (skipping 2020), his teams made the tournament 6 times. One natty, one second round loss, and four first round losses.

I am confused by the tweet. The list is the coaches that underperform the most. So wouldn’t being ranked ~400 be a good thing? That is, wouldn’t being ranked WAY down the underperform list indicate over performance?

It's a list of 415 coaches and their performance against KenPom. The tweet is a subset - a screenshot of the bottom - and says "these coaches underperform".
It doesn't say the whole 415 list is underperformance.

Thanks for clarifying.
So my take on this is, KenPom is just another rating system. There are a number of well regarded coaches in this list (not saying one way or another if BB is one of them). Does that make you question the coach or the rating more? What about vs NET? RPI? What exactly does performance vs KenPom mean? Does sample size skew the ratings?
Regardless of my above assault on the value of the tweet, 396 out of 415 is not good.

Tony was the first 1 seed to lose to a 16. However they quantified this, that has to break the meter. It’s the greatest underperform of all time. But winning in the tourney is hard and Tony makes a good illustration that you need to be in the tournament consistently to have any shot at that break through season. Taking a team where no player has ever been before doesn’t bode well. Which is why making the tournament every 4th year is not acceptable. You can miss in rebuild years but a 14th year basketball coach should be in 3 of 4/5 years and never slip below NIT level.

Let’s not throw the tourney win percentage numbers in there. ACC or NCAA. Neither are good.

“Clemson, meanwhile, is arguably the weakest 6-seed in the tournament after posting a 21-10 overall record and an 11-9 mark in conference play during a down year for the ACC. The Tigers have lost three of four entering the Big Dance.
There were some good regular season performances, but this is a program rarely ready for the March spotlight.
Everybody likes to point to Rick Barnes and Matt Painter when it comes to March futility, but Brad Brownell is up there. NC State won five games in five days in the ACC Tournament to get the auto bid. Brownell has been Clemson’s coach since 2010 and has six wins total in the ACC Tournament. In the NCAA Tournament, he’s 3-4 with the Tigers, with two of those wins coming back in 2018.”
