I thought we threw it too much. Losing a game to prepare for next year seems oddly ridiculous. Surely there is more to it than that.

I didn’t call him out, LOL. I agree conservative was the way. I just can’t believe the offense is literally right back where it was in 21’. Bad OL, ineffective injured WRs, ineffective QB. RBs just decent. Another incredible defense wasted. Why are they doing this? Why won’t Clemson fix the stinking offense? Why is the staff so bad? (Not GR). Does anyone have an answer that’s not, “well, we got help on the way!”
HOW DO YOU UN-EFF THIS OFFENSE? I want to beat Georgia and go back to the playoffs. How can that happen with the same offense coming back plus a few freshman? The answer is it can not. Something else has to happen.
It’s starts with replacing deadbeat coaches and friends, and ends with the transfer portal.

You do realize that the “injured” part of your post pretty much explains it all. Regardless of the numbers Cade played light years better than DJU did in 21. If Wesco is half of what’s advertised and Brown returning we just need a couple of those injured players to show up next year. When you have a limited passing game and no real down field threat the defense can be one dimensional. That makes the OL look worse than it is and the RBs are far more than decent but limited by the lack of passing game. And the “deadbeat coaches and friends” comment is hack, ######## troll nonsense. Pretty sad when you let that crap actually get in your head.

We said that about Ladson, Collins, Ngata, EJ Williams - all high 4 & 5 stars - lousy coaching and huge underperformance. In other words, if we don't coach the new guys up - results will be mixed.

So injuries don’t play a role and 3* Tyler Brown is gutting it out on pure talent? There are a lot of contradictions to reconcile.

The difference is the 4 UGA transfers actually play and contribute and UGA has the #1 recruiting class for 2024 so they don't have any real gaps to fill or spots to use.

Absolutely not Saturday night. But that offense needs work between now and next year to compete for a championship. And I mean alot of work. Not to mention better protection, better wide outs, better downfield vision, better ball security, better play calls, agreement amongst the staff etc. etc.

Last year we were beyond frustrated that Streeter abandoned the run game against the Gamecocks and we lost a game we should have won. This year Dabo, knowing the situation with our WR injuries was very similar, came into the game intending to lean on what we do best. Play great D and consume clock with the run game. As you might imagine, Riley also is using every game as an opportunity to further develop Cade as a passer. Dabo did the right thing by reminding the offensive staff that the plan was to manage the game, avoid turnovers and wear out their defense. I suspect Dabo was just as frustrated as all of us with the INT in the endzone.

Why should there have been more passes against the coots? The goal is to win the game. How do you defeat a team with a dynamic QB like Rattler? A: you keep him off the field by eating clock. That means RUN the ball. Especially if you have a Shipley and a Mafah.

Agreed! This is what I was yelling as soon as we went up by two possessions in the 2nd half. It was very evident what type of game this was which was field position & defense so there was absolutely zero reason to start throwing the ball all over the place to a depleted WR group who were dropping passes hitting them in the hands anyway.
Winning games running the ball are never pretty on CFB stat sheets but it was exactly the formula to win that game Saturday night & it worked!! 219 yds rushing at 5yds a pop is not something that you abandon when leading by two possessions.
Of course all my friends etc just kept saying our offense sucked 😂

Back when we had generational QBs AND stud WRs, I remember there being a lot of talk about chunk plays or explosive plays - in other words plays of over 20 yards. It was a big deal and Dabo and other coaches talked about it quite a bit. Part of the reason we were winning so much was that we were in the top 10 in explosive plays.
This guy explains the five most important things to winning football games in this article: https://www.footballstudyhall.com/2014/1/24/5337968/college-football-five-factors
but the main explanation for the importance of chunk plays is in this excerpt:
Big plays are probably the single most important factor to winning football games. The team more adept at creating numbers advantages and getting a guy into the open field, or the team that can simply outman its opponent and win one-on-one battles will almost certainly generate more big plays and win more games. And as pointed out in my Four Truths column, big plays also allow you to avoid killing yourself.
Nothing is more demoralizing than giving up a 20-play, 80-yard, nine-minute drive. But unless your team is Navy, that doesn't happen too often. Defensive coaches often teach their squads the concept of leverage -- prevent the ball-carrier from getting the outside lane, steer him to the middle, make the tackle, and live to play another down. It is the bend-don't-break style of defense, and it often works because if you give the offense enough opportunities, they might eventually make a drive-killing mistake, especially at the collegiate level. If you allow them 40 yards in one play, their likelihood of making a drive-killing mistake plummets.
THIS IS THE THING TYHAT HAS MOST LIMITED OUR OFFENSIVE (and overall) SUCCESS IN THE LAST THREE YEARS - OUR INABILITY TO STRETCH THE DEFENSE AND SCORE EXPLOSIVE PLAYS.
I wish I could find the stats to get the number of explosive plays for us over the last ten years. I think that would be an interesting indicator.
I don't know who might be responsible for this - QBs? WRs? Coaches ? But our lack of explosiveness is the thing that is severly limitiong our offense.

In 2023, without a balanced offense, Clemson could only beat poor to average teams. We lost to Duke (who lost to UVA), and Miami (who lost to GaT) and NCSU ... all on the road.
Yet the team did improve and took undefeated FSU to OT and beat a quality Notre Dame team at home for our best win of the season. Some are satisfied with 8-4. Others are not. Those who state Clemson could beat SCU without passing are correct. Those who state Clemson's Offense must be balanced to beat most quality teams are correct.
