Coastal roster

There are hundreds and even thousands of baseball players that are good enough to play on college teams. In looking at our roster compared to Coastal's, Coastal has only 7 players from SC and we have 16. Last night, Coastal started several transfers from hotbeds of baseball including Phoenix College, The Citadel, Longwood and Radford. Is there anything to learn from that, probably not, but baseball players come from all over and finding guys that make a difference, regardless of where they are from, is 100% of what makes a good team. Hopefully our transfers coming in will be the ones that will make us an Omaha team.

I believe Coastal is successive due to enough good pitchers to carry
thru a weekend 3 game series etc. They also have good bats. Coaching
plays a big part in knowing which pitchers to rotate and great game
planning.They have a solid team.

Coastal’s coach is from Trenton, NJ. He uses his connections to recruit heavily from Southeast PA and South Jersey. Flukey, Bodine, Mihos, and Barthol all from this area. Got more kids too. Kurtz from Wake Forest last year from Lancaster, PA. I live in this area and we have lots of baseball talent. EB tried to get Harlan from Doylestown but he went in the first round. Ironically all the D1 schools in this area are horrible. D2/D3 are good.

Harlan went early 3rd RD, the money was enough to compete with for NIL, but I think if it was a team other than a team like the Dodgers he would have came to Clemson. We just have terrible luck keeping our Top 1 or 2 commits every year. Was the same with Dillon Head the year before.

I think sometimes you just hit on some diamonds in the rough, some guys blossom later, but to me....its all on coaching and getting the max potential out of these guys. I think that's what we lack....I don't even know if we have a hitting coach, it seems everyone we get that should be good, takes a step backwards. Unless its a natural hitter like Cam, we seem to struggle improving our hitters. We need position coaches that know what they're doing.

Absolutely! We are pitching was not very good, or hitting wasn’t very good either. I don’t know if baseball teams have hitting coaches, but we definitely need one. If we have one, then we need a new one.

I think we got the max out for f our talent this year. We won 45 games with a team that only had one 300 plus .
Our pitching folded down the stretch also.
I think EB got every ounce out of this team.

SouthernTiger - Its funny you say that about the hitting coach 'cause I was wondering the same thing. Priest and Gaffney looked absolutely clueless at the plate all year long and they were supposed to be a huge chunk of our power. We got very little out of them and it really hurt us.

Well according to the baseball staff directory we don't have one. Got some former players under the Director of Player Development, so that must matter some. Idk, but feels like we need a change in the assistant dept.

Coastal is an awesome story.

Let's see them do it 2 or 3 years in a row before you assume they have some magic formula.

and, yes, I know they won the championship in 2016.

Seems like you are basically saying Coastal has a magic formula when they could easily just have had luck on their side this year with respect to all their players performing at or above expectations.

Every school tries to bring in transfers who they think will contribute.

Everyone needs a little luck. They have a new pitching coach who has taken them from being mediocre to elite this year. In recent memory they have been a pure hitting team. They also recruit guys who get less attention and they develop them. They also have lots of experience. No magic formula just a proven sustainable one. Give credit where it’s due. Coastal has been good for a while and very good this year.

Our assistant coaches seem to be doing very little to improve our guys from the beginning to the end of their careers.

Identifying talent is the difference. Clemson at one point probably could of landed most of the players on Coastals roster. You can only coach a player so far. The way Clemson strikes out tells you they just don't have the talent. They definitely missed on a bunch of pitchers. Hopefully they will get better at developing players and bringing in more talented players.
