I bet CTB wishes he could have hung on to his job for seven more seasons. He'd be sitting at 12-0 right now, with a chance to win the ACC and possibly a NC. Had we known then, what we know now, I bet we would have allowed him to stay through this season so he could go out on top.
Hind sight's 20/20.
PS: This is a commentary on the ridiculousness of assuming previous coaches would have enjoyed the same success as the current staff, had they stayed. It is impossible to predict with accuracy that results would/wouldn't be the same.

if tommy'd practiced best is the standard, then aaron kelly would have caught the game winner against BC in the 2007 and punched clemson's ticket into the championship game.
with the 2007 acc championship in pocket, there would have been no need for the awkward move in 2008 and clemson would have been in the hunt for the playoffs 2-3 years earlier not having to wait around for an inexperienced HC to cut his teeth.

Bowden would have suffered his fate no matter because Clemson lacked talented offensive linemen and it showed in 2008! He was a good coach, but not great and his vision for what Clemson needed was in part his legacy. As a recent article indicated it took Dabo's drive, business knowledge and recruiting to begin a long-term process. USuck is finding out that Dabo is certainly not a "clown" in that he assembled a superior staff and plan for the program to be sustained while OBS fell flat after short term success. What a difference between those involved! Bowden could not have achieved the same results despite his intentions. Why do you not hear of CTB in coaching vacancies? The answer is obvious.
