Have you tried putting an ice pack or a frozen towel behind your back? My mom suffers from back spasms too. She always like to putt a frozen towel behind her back for the pain.

But for me and other people I've talked too, the shots are only good for about a month or so. So you have to go back for shots periodically, or find a longer term solution. I had to limit certain activities, we're not in our 20s and 30s anymore.

The procedure they're talking about trying on me is called, (Intracept Procedure). What I have read about it is that they are having some pretty good results with it, but anybody that is having the amount of pain in their back as I have on a daily basis, they would be willing to try anything that may give them just a little relief of their back pain.

Honestly, I would chance having the procedure even if they told me that there was a chance that I would never wake up again bc living with the pain that I live with daily, it makes life not worth living. I'm about 60% incapacitated most days bc the pain that makes it very difficult for me to walk any distance, and that's after taking the pain meds my Dr gives me on a monthly basis...

Until you can get to doctor, I know Alleve says only take 1 or 2 max at a time but my doctor said you could go one more than that and it gets you like prescription level until you can get to doctor. Possibly just go 2 Alleve every 12 hours for a day and see if it helps. Alternate heat and then ice back and forth

I suffered with severe sciatic pain for years which caused me to have to give up golf, which I played at a championship level previously. I tried everything, every kind of injections, treatments you could imagine with no results.

I began taking Gabapentin and bought an electronic stimulator the same week so I don't know which one did the trick but my pain was gone in a few days. If it recurs, I use the stimulator for a day or two and it always goes away. Never went back to golf but I work like a trojan around my property, lifting heavy objects, running chainsaws and machinery with no problems. The stimulator I bought was called NeuroMD and it absolutely gave me a new life!

All Orange- I would highly recommend going to see Dr. Chris Brown at Duke Ortho. He’s a straight up guy and will be very honest with you. He’s one of the best ortho spine surgeons in the world. He also teaches at Duke and travels the world training orthopedic spine surgeons. If you can be fixed, he’s the one that can do it. People come from all over the country to see him. A friend of mine sells medical devices to Duke and directed me to Dr. Brown. He fixed my neck, my back, my brother’s neck, and my son’s back. I have referred several others to him and hear nothing but great outcomes.

The only 2 things I have around that really help relatively quickly are massage therapy and dry needling. I discovered massage therapy many years ago and that worked for a long time. Earlier this year I had some pretty severe spasms and my daughter recommended the physical therapy group she sees and I went there. They did the dry needling and I got some immediate relief. After a second treatment the spasms were pretty much gone. I’m still dealing with the arthritic hip but the spasms in my back are gone.

If you need a chiropractor where you are, let me know.

I really feel for you clover65®, I have been dealing with back problems since jumping from a H-46 with both rotors engaged to investigate a stub wing fuel leak in the 80's. I have found lots of temp help with Tens units, massage, rehab exercises, marijuana pens, etc. The only long-lasting thing I have used is narcotics, but as my Dr has told me it is only a mask and you must be very careful. I have never been addicted to them or any other thing in my life excluding Scooter riding and Clemson team sports. Good luck man, I feel for you. BTW: I think the MJ pens worked the best but I was born in '47 and it makes me paranoid......"I think that a Trooper in my rearview"

Same here, I have been taking pain killers since 2006 after I injured my back and I've never ren out before time, and I've never ask a Dr to give me more before it was time. I take a 100mg morphine tablet twice a day and 10/325 oxycodone tablets 3 times a day and they can't deal with the back spasms...

clover65® this sounds similar to what I went twice. Sorry you're having to go through this.

The remedies that work best will depend on the root cause. Also keep in mind that what works or does not varies from individual to individual.

In my case, I was having muscle spasms, and the back specialist I saw suggested I might have strained joints. The doctor prescribed the muscle relaxer methocarbamol. It did not help. For the first week or two I used ibuprofen every four hours up to the maximum daily dosage. It helped me the most, but I stopped taking it as soon as I could because it is tough on the liver.

In addition to the ibuprofen, I took the following daily:

Magnesium capsules (a blend of various types of magnesium for muscle support)
Glycine capsules (anti-inflammatory and other benefits)
Turmeric capsules (anti-inflammatory)
Glucosamine capsules (anti-inflammatory,joint support)

Soaking in epsom salt helped, but applying ice packs every two to three hours helped even more. The spasms stopped after about two to three weeks and the pain was completely gone after about 6-8 weeks.

I hope you can find some relief soon.
