Sources: Clemson football is hiring veteran NFL talent evaluator Kevin Kelly of the Los Angeles Chargers as the program’s new director of player evaluation and acquisition. He’s agreed to a two-year deal at $360,000 per year, which is being finalized today. Kelly is the Chargers' senior scouting executive and has worked there since 2013. The move shows Clemson football’s continued evolution. Kelly will work alongside current Clemson GM Jordan Sorrells. -Pete Thamel ESPN

Hopefully our new talent evaluator will tell dabo to stop recruiting 3 stars and go back to getting the 4-5 star studs we use to get. That’s the only we will get back to elite status. Becoming 3 star U ain’t gonna get the job done. Just facts🤷♂️

OTOH, perhaps he can find some "bargains" which will allow our money to stretch farther and improve depth - when hopefully combined with superior developmental coaching.

Yep, that’s all we need to do. Pay somebody $300k to tell Dabo about recruiting rankings.

Could have gotten a talent evaluator off of T-Net and saved a lot of money.

My main issue with schools doing this is why are paying coaches 11.5 million if a talent evaluator is needed full time? Not just Dabo, but really? No wonder players want millions. If we go to work and are well paid but everything of substance is done by an assistant, then successful corporations cut the fat! With our head coach earning this kind if money this is a slap in the face or should be to all NIL boosters! Waste of hard earned money! Here is a thought " hey coach get your tail on that private jet and find the players"!

The college model is shifting. This is more like the professional model where the GM assembles the roster and the coaches coach. Of course, the coaches have input on the roster.
I don't think it's realistic anymore for a coach to be able to keep up with all of the player evaluations and impacts to the "budget".

Folks. You are missing the boat here. Talent evaluator Is not only for evaluating talent on the HS level but at every level including the portal as well as determining how the 20 million plus revenue sharing will be paid to current players. I suspect this person will have a big role in determining who at what position gets how many dollars.
You have to have some very good fact based reasons to distribute the 20 million. It cannot be arbitrary or their win be lawsuits galore. So, you evaluate talent and come up with a price.
Good move on Dabo's part. Who better than an NFL talent evaluator.

What does Danny Pearman do again????
Seems like we are just creating random positions nowadays. I would think someone on the staff could tell Dabo if a player is talented or not?

"Director of player evaluation and acquisition" sounds random to you?

Yes!! Since we have a Director of Scouting and Recruiting Coordinator already! Why do we need a Talent Evaluator along with whatever else position that seems to similar responsibilities with random title.

It's a very specific position, certainly not random.
The pool to evaluate is much larger than ever. Not only do they have to assess high schoolers, they also have to assess portal players (there are thousands) as well as self-assess on a regular basis since players can just decide to leave at any time.
In addition, roster management now includes a financial piece. How much of the $20M will football get, and then how will they disperse that to the (potential) 105-man roster?
Then, you still have NIL to deal with, also.
With all of these changes, more oversight and input is needed. Schools all over the country are adding GM-like positions and increasing their "scouts" (evaluators).
It's a good move, forward thinking, and it lets our coaches spend more time coaching.
