the ACC, winning 10 games, and playing well and making it in the first CFP. Sure I wished we could have defeated our arch rival and won some more CFP games but when you look at SC LSU Texas A&M Alabama Michigan Fl State Florida Miami Louisville Ole Miss and many others that did not make a conference game or get into the playoff I say Tigers not to shabby for 2024

If we have to compare our season to other teams that didn't make the playoff I believe that speaks volumes to how our season went. 4 losses, a loss to our rival, and an 0-3 record against the SEC is mediocre at best. 10 wins in the ACC against our schedule is an empty accomplishment. We went 1-1 against the 2 best ACC teams we faced, and neither of them were great. Had we played Miami this year we wouldve lost that game as well. Like it or not we played a weak schedule, lucked our way into the ACC champ game, and got shown we can't compete with the big boys in the playoff.

Not a fool, nor a grinch, im just a realist. We had a losing record when playing decent or better teams this year. Miami was arguable better than SC, Louisville, and Pittsburgh. We lost 2 of those 3.

Miami literally won 2 games because of referees…. One of those against vt which we beat by the way. If you are being realist realize anybody can beat anybody bc nobody is dominant

Great teams rarely lose to teams below their level. Look at Clemson's Natty runs. Those were not 4 loss seasons with defeats against USC and lower tier ACC programs. Unless I'm mistaken we lost 1 game combined both of those years. We lost to a middling Louisville program, a 3 loss USC, and an SMU program in it's first year of Power 5 football, and it took a last minute miracle to beat a Pittsburgh team playing a backup QB. Additionally look at the defensive performance against a team like the Citadel. Yes, we played backups the but result speaks volumes to the issues of this roster and our inability to stop the run. It stinks to admit, but our 2 best victories this season were SMU and maybe Pittsburgh, every other victory was against sub par teams. 10 wins against that schedule is nothing to brag about, especially when taking into consideration how we performed against the 2 elite teams we faced and the likes of USC. It took a last game effort from Syracuse to even secure a conference championship birth. Without that bit of luck k it would have been yet another 9 win season. Like it or not, as it currently stands we are not elite nor was it a great season.
...and no I'm not a coot. The Clemson diploma on my wall says otherwise.

I think we could beat Miami and probably we would be favored.
I think GT and Syracuse would be tougher games than Miami and especially on the road!

Doesn't that say something though? The fact that Syracuse and GT would be tough games if not toss-ups? We barely beat Pittsburgh who played a backup QB. Elite teams take care of business against inferior competiton. Additionally, any teams with a pulse this year beat us pretty handedly. Louisville, UGA, Texas all beat us soundly. USC beat us at home. Im not saying fire Dabo, but this program is trending down and it has me concerned. We haven't even talked about recruiting, roster management, or the failed DC experiment.

Im happy to happy an actual debate. Or listen to an argument where we actually played well against good competitom this season. I grew up and went to Clemson during the Bowden years, Dabo is a vi time of his own success. You can't win 2 Nattys, riae the standard to 'Best', and be happy with 4 losses. With great success comes great expectations.

Are you familiar with the pre-Bowden years? Those were rough! I still believe Bowden started the comeback for Tiger football. He took them as far as he could. Then came Dabo. Losing 4 games, even though I don’t like the way we lost them, will not make me whine and complain about the Tigers. We all want to win every game every year.

100% agree. Where I differ however is in looking backwards. Looking at the past is not going to help us improve in the future. Dabo is inarguably Clemson's greatest coach, that's a no-brainer. In todays modern college football (which irritates me to no end) he has proven to be slow to adapt and alter his approach and mindset. This thinking, or lack of adjustment, has taken us from from being elite to a step or 2 down. Being content with 4 losses is not going to help us obtain that elite status again. Comparing today teams to Clemson teams of old is not going to help us reobtain elite status. The expanded season and 12 team playoff has made the days of 10 win seasons a moot point. 10 wins are a nice bragging point, but it is no longer the benchmark for a successful season. Lastly, 10 wins in the ACC is not particularly special, especially considering it is the worst conference in P4 football. Big Picture, I would prefer we look forward, not judge success based on past seasons.

Sure it is. Look around. It's rare air still. Teams getting extra playoff games already had 10 wins heading in. SCar and Illinois will be battling out to claim a 10th win. Ask them what that means.

Every victory means a lot to USC considering how few they actually have. 10 wins in the weakest conference isn't brag worthy. Let's face the facts, the ACC isn't good. This season they produced 0 elite teams, 2 good teams, and the rest were average or worse. For Clemson to be elite, winning 10 games and the ACC title isn't going to cut it. We've got to compete, and WIN against the SEC and in the playoffs. We didn't do that this year. Losses against the likes of Louisville and USC will not help support the narrative of a great season. Every victory we had, with the exception of SMU was against an average or worse opponent. 10 wins against average competition has inflated this stat to look better on paper than reality. It stinks to say but its the truth.

Nobody reasonably expects to win a Natty every year. However, Im not about to praise a season where we lose 4 games in a year for the second time in a row.

Yet again, enjoy your Who Cares Bowl against Who Cares University.
You’re losing 40 players clown. Your “magical” season of 9 wins and having us give you the game is nothing when put in context.
Such a child, but I’m guessing you’re actually a grown coot.

Who's the "cocklover"? I'm a proud Clemson grad. Dabonis a victim of his own success. You can't win 2 Natty and then lose 4 games and call the season a success. You especially can't call it a success when it's the second season in a row with 4 losses. If "best" is truly the standard than I am only arguing to uphold that standard. Complaceny is enemy of success. The fact we are arguing over 4 losses being a great season goes to show the effect of this complacency.

I don't think its the overall outcome so much as the trend that upsets people. We're seen as down trending. At a time when College Football is becoming professional our HC is taking a most unprofessional approach. I believe this is true with regards to how he builds a staff and acquires talent. What you saw may be "not bad" but Dabo has the ability to be excellent and is flubbing it. IMO
