Clemson and FSU and ACC Realignment Article

There have been rampant rumors and speculation that FSU will be leaving the ACC. Clemson is another team that's similarly gone to war in the courtroom with the conference. Finding a new conference home has been the goal for both for the better part of the last year.

If they left, though, who would replace them?

Fly War Eagle's Andrew Hughes dished the inside scoop after speaking with media consultant Jim Williams.

In an interview with Hughes, Williams alluded to several AAC schools on the ACC's radar.

“There are numerous schools beyond FSU and Clemson that could fill the void,” Williams told Hughes. “UConn, for instance, could join and align well with former Big East members like Syracuse, Boston College, Pitt, and Miami, adding another prestigious basketball program. Memphis is another strong basketball contender with a football program, and Tulane and USF are also potential additions to the conference."

UConn would be a football-only member with its basketball program firmly entrenched in the Big East. The other three would be full members of the ACC.

FSU and Clemson may end up staying in the ACC
FSU and Clemson may stay in the ACC after all. Per Williams, the Tigers would "never" be accepted into the Big Ten, while the Seminoles would face an uphill climb themselves. Neither are AAU accredited but FSU at least has a medical school so it can get there.

Meanwhile, market redundancy for both schools would limit the SEC's interest. UNC is the top target for the SEC to expand its southern footprint.

With no other options, FSU and Clemson may have to make up with the ACC in the end.

Just mindless speculation.

I stopped reading after it was suggested that UConn and Memphis could fill the void should FSU and Clemson leave the ACC.

I don't know who Jim Williams is or what he does, but he's clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Who?? Yet another worthless article by some no-name hack.***

Y’all need to research the difference between accreditation and membership.

Population of Alabama - 5 million, 2 SEC schools
Population of Mississippi - 2.8 million, 2 SEC schools
Population of S.C - 5.2 million, 1 SEC school

I think the article jumps to the wrong conclusion.

Exactly. Truly, the only thing that matters as events unfold in the future is to follow the money. ESPN cuts checks to the ACC primarily because of 2 teams. They are just as valuable in the ACC as they are in another conference. If one of the Big 2 conferences has a path to bring in the Big 2 ACC teams and earn more $$$, done deal. All other factors are just twitter fodder.

That guy publishes speculative articles nearly every day. I wouldn't put much faith into what he says.

That article was written from the "footprint" mindset of 20 years ago. It's about viewership. No one watches UVa and UNC has a good bit less than FSU/Clemson. Lol

"...If they left, though, who would replace them?..."

I thought SMU, Cal and Stanford were playing this role.
