a lot of memories. Charlie and I played together for 3 of his years at Clemson and he will always be one of my favorites. Great guy and just a wonderful athlete with natural abilities only God can give. If you have a few minutes, this will make your day. A fine tribute to one of Clemson's finest! I always said Charlie Taylor made Waters an All Pro Strong Safety, forgot about Harold Jackson's part. Gil Brandt was noted for taking chances on and seeing potential in players. Drafted Harris from Ouchita Baptist, Charlie as a QB/WR to play defense, Bob Hayes, never played football but had blazing speed, Roger Staubach, who hadv to serve 2 years in the Navy, and drafted Hershal Walker, even though he signed with the USFL.

Actually, "Roger The Dodger" had to serve 4 years active duty when he graduated from the Naval Academy in 1965. I had an uncle who was on a similar program at Georgia Tech (Naval ROTC Scholarship) and they required 4 years service in return for the free college. My uncle ended up as an Electrical Engineer with NASA.

I remember as a kid watching Charlie play for North Augusta in his high school days at the old Lions Field.Was a great athlete in all sports back then . He’s in the North Augusta Sports Hall Of Fame .
