Changes to ACCCG

Not taking a position on this, but do have some questions, particularly in light of the 14 team CFP rumors.
Is Phillips’ idea to name the regular season champ the conference champ, and give them the trophy? If so, what does the trophy awarded at the game have engraved on it?
If this had been done in 2024, it would have cost the ACC, with only one guaranteed spot, a playoff berth. SMU would have hosted, but the winner of the ROY game would probably have been left out in favor of another non-conference champion.
In the 14-team, two guaranteed berth scenario, this maybe makes more sense. This year, it would have rewarded SMU with a “bye” for championship week, probably have given them a first round CFP bye, and made them play 1 (maybe two) fewer games. These seem like pretty good perks, especially if they get the title and the trophy.
For Clemson and Miami, it would be two programs with “win and in” as the reward. I think I might be cool with that, but only in the 14 team model. But the game in Charlotte would need to be renamed. And with four guarantees to the SEC and the B1G, what purpose would their championship games serve.

Just imagine - you get to hold up the trophy that says “ACC runner up”.
Sounds like a good trophy for the trophy case in Columbia but not in my town.
Dumbest idea I’ve ever heard up.
Folks. This is not rocket science- why do we try to make it such.
Each P4 conference winner gets in and a bye. Each runner up gets in- all guaranteed. Why is this so hard

I would be in favor of eliminating all conference championship games

but anytime that comes up, the argument is always “but that can never happen because of the money”. Well, in the brave new world, what do these games matter?
And if the ACC had two auto bids, then the game is totally meaningless…how much does the outcome of the game help the two participants, who are both going to the CFP anyway?

Go to an NFL model. Break up conferences so there are 12 and then give top 4, regardless of conference, the bye. Prioritize playing games ooc that aren't cupcakes.
One thing I believe we did see this last round. Best teams won

Suppose #2 is better than #3 and looks like they'll make the CFP, but what then if they lose to #3 in this crazy new ACCCG format? Would that potentially knock them out and hurt their chances to make the CFP.
#2 losing to #1 doesn't look as bad as #2 losing to #3 in a conference championship game.
