Anyone else counting on chad smith in the coming years? Ever since we've had Spencer Shuey and Ben Boulware it's been tradition to have a hard-nosed white linebacker.

Clearly we all know about the elite talents of Tre Lamar but looking ahead, here's just one from the 2017 class that seems to fit our Shuey/Leake/Boulware/Adam mentality.... I'm a huge fan of his physicality and he definitely Brings His Own Guts. Check out his film and you'll see.

LB Dylan Rivers 6-3 220 Stephens City, VA Sherando HS

A 4* prospect according to Rivals.com and 24/7, who ranks him as the #16 OLB and 195 overall. He plays on both sides of the ball and on special teams. In a recent game vs. Louisa, Rivers had 3 receptions for 121 yards and a TD and 15 rushing yards with a score. He also recovered two forced fumbles. He's also been known to line up at QB and bull-rush the defense, often for a TD. Rivers made all-state and 1st team all region as a junior all-purpose player. Holds offers from Clemson, VT, NCST, UVA, Pitt, PennSt, WVY, and gains offers on a frequent basis. Scheduled to visit Clemson for the GT game.

From early in the 2015 season- Sherando scored on its third play from scrimmage as Dylan Rivers turned a screen pass from quarterback Patrick Minteer into a 73-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead with 5:59 left in the first quarter.

LCHS moved the ball near midfield on the second possession, but Rivers pounced on a muffed snap at the Lions 38-yard-line. One play later, Myers found a hole in the middle of the line and took it to the house for a 14-0 lead with 3:13 left

The turnover bug struck again as Rivers pounced on another loose ball. Sherando capitalized as Myers scored from nine yards out for a 20-0 lead with 1:58 left in the quarter.

Rivers added his second score of the game in the second quarter, this time a two-yard touchdown run for a 27-0 halftime lead. Fischer said Rivers, who has offers from more than a dozen Division I schools, was a disruptive force.

“Not blocking him was the biggest problem,” he said. “But he’s a heck of a football player and you have to give the kid credit. They have a great team and they’ve got some good football players and they executed well and he did his job the way he was coached to do it. We’ve got to do a better job of coaching our kids to get good guys like that out of there.”

A read from the 14 season- Statistically, the sophomore might not stand out as one of the top players in the game, but in the game's most important stretch, he made the biggest plays. Tied at 29, Rivers all but halted a Handley scoring drive with a big sack on second down that led to the Judges facing a third-and fourteen that they failed to convert. On the subsequent Sherando drive, the tight end turned a screen pass on third-and-seven into a nine-yard gain and a first down. That drive was later capped by his 15-yard scoring reception that gave the Warriors their first lead of the game.

Evaluation
Rivers is extremely physical and strong. He shows good overall athleticism and runs well. Rivers is very aggressive and relentless on the field. He plays fast, but under control. Rivers also takes good angles when pursuing the football and is a very good tackler. He needs to continue to work on his lateral movement, but he will make an instant impact at the college level and has the potential development a great player. -- Michael Clark
